Newsletter – Term 4 Week 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a very busy two weeks at school with lots of extra-curricula and school based activities including basketball tournaments, school performances and the much anticipated school disco. It has been lovely to hear feedback about how respectful our students have been during these events. We were so impressed with the listening skills of our students at our last whole school assembly that we gave all the classes an extra 10 minutes play time, they were very excited!!

Newsletter Changes

We are making some changes to the frequency of our newsletter publication. We have been in discussion with the School Association about reducing the newsletter to monthly. Data from Schoolzine suggests that only 50% of sent copies of the newsletter are being accessed, we believe this is due to the popularity of our Facebook page. With this in mind, the newsletter will be produced monthly. We have also sought feedback around the sharing of information about upcoming school activities. As a result, attached to this newsletter you will find a copy of a six weekly calendar detailing all school based events. Moving forward, this will be given in hard copy to the eldest child in the family to take home. Parents will receive this on the first Wednesday of the month, with the newsletter going home on the third Wednesday of the month.

3-4 Basketball Tournament

On the 29 and 30 of November we had two very enthusiastic teams participate in the 3-4 Schools Tournament. Our teams did an amazing job, it was great to see the sportsmanship and encouragement in our teams. A huge thank you to Mr Walter for coaching the 3-4 boys team and all the parents and staff members who came to cheer our teams on!

Canteen

Wednesdays are always a popular day of the week at Perth with many families ordering school lunches. A reminder that orders can be cancelled through Qkr up until 9am for cases where children are not attending school. If a child goes home sick on a Wednesday, unfortunately we are not able to refund or credit orders as stock is purchased and prepared during the morning.

Staffing News

After seventeen years at Perth as School Business Manager, Leanne Dunn will officially retire at the end of the year. Mrs Dunn has been on extended bereavement leave after the loss of a family member. We appreciate everything Leanne has done for Perth Primary in her time as our SBM. Our school will be holding a formal farewell dinner for Leanne in the coming weeks.

We are pleased to announce that Miss Doran was the successful applicant for our substantive AST position, this means she will have a permanent placement at Perth Primary. We are also pleased that Mrs Tenille Rosevear will continue at Perth Primary in 2023

Disco

There was a huge amount of excitement leading up to our annual school disco last Thursday and we certainly weren’t disappointed! The night was a huge success thanks to the great organisation and hard work of our School Association volunteers who helped decorate, prepare and sell food and the very popular glow sticks!

A big shout out to our teachers who also helped, including DJ B & DJ K who were master spinners of the tunes and got some games going! Our students looked fabulous and their behaviour and attitude was excellent.

Performances

We have been lucky in the last two weeks to take part in three school based incursions. Clarence High School Concert Band visited us last week. There were 42 students involved in the band, they performed several well-known tunes that got us up and dancing, especially the Kinders! A special surprise was the inclusion of our own Esk Band members into the band to perform a couple of songs!

We also had a performance called ‘Healthy Habits’ it was highly informative and entertaining and told the story of how we need to respect people, oceans and habitats. Our students really enjoyed it and many students were able to make connections back in their classrooms.

On Tuesday we had another performance, ‘Aboriginal Survival Technology’ the students had the opportunity to look at and explore traditional technologies used by indigenous peoples across the varied environments of Australia – deserts, mountains, rivers and sea shores. It was a hands on performance which our students really enjoyed. Teachers have been able to make links to the Australian Curriculum around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
