Newsletter – Term 4 Week 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 4, we have already had some beautiful warm days which makes it feel like summer is just around the corner. I’d like to welcome back Jan Mahar who has been on Long Service Leave for most of Term 2 and also thank Tarsha Hockley for the wonderful job she did as our Canteen Manager while Jan was on leave.
Garden Beds
At the end of the term, Mr Muir finished the raised garden beds outside the 3-4 area. The students with the support of some kind donations from Bunnings have been planting and sowing seeds ready to plant once the weather warms up. It is lovely to see students at playtimes weeding, watering and caring for our gardens. We are all enjoying watching our gardens grow and look forward to creating some recipes with our ‘school grown’ goodies.
Before School Care changes
We appreciate that the changes to Before School Care have impacted a number of families. We have had to make the decision to cap the number at 14 students due to our duty of care obligations. We have been unable to secure additional staff to work in the before school time slot which has meant that we have had no option but to cap the numbers in order to maintain the service. We understand that this is difficult for some families however as a school we have exhausted all our options in being able to provide care before school hours. In 2023, we are excited that Northern Midlands Child Care will be able to offer Before School Care in their new centre, we are hopeful that they are able to offer more places. Information about their service will be provided in the next few weeks and I encourage parents to make contact to ensure that they are able to gain a spot.
Disco
Our Student Parliament with the support of our School Association are very excited to be holding a disco on Thursday 3 November for both ECE and Primary Students. The theme is fluro and the School Association will be providing food, drink and fluro accessories for sale. Our students are very excited and we thank the School Association for their ongoing support.
Class Placement information 2023
It is the time of the year when we begin to look at class structures and student placements. As a school we feel our teachers know our students well as learners and from a social perspective. We do appreciate that there are times that parents may have some additional information that they feel the school should know when making decisions about class placement. If you would like to discuss anything regarding your child’s 2023 class placement, please contact the office to make an appointment with me or a member of the leadership team. We do respectfully ask that parents do not request teachers as our staffing is not confirmed until later in the year. Any information that relates to how to support your child as a learner or from a social perspective should form the basis of these conversations.
School Basketball Tournament
Over the weekend our 5-6 teams participated in the Primary Schools Basketball Tournament. It was our second year involved in the competition. There were over 60 teams from schools across the North of Tasmania. Our boys team performed amazingly well, last year the same team finished second last in their division and this year made it to the semi-finals to finish 3rd out of 16 teams!! They showed great skill, grit and determination in all their games.
Our girls team also had a great tournament, they were coached by Barb Prewer who volunteered her time to train and coach the girls. They all showed a huge amount of improvement throughout the tournament with a win and some very close games.
A huge thanks to all the parents and school staff who came along to support our teams. Next week the Grade 3-4 tournament will be held and we have both a boys and girls team entered. We wish them all the best of luck.

Triathlon
The Primary Schools Triathlon will be held in Devonport on Thursday 24 November. As always, it is a popular event for our students with over 30 students taking part this year. Mr Muir has kindly offered to support our students with some training on Thursday lunchtimes. Students are asked to bring their bikes and helmets to school on Thursdays where possible.
