Newsletter – Term 3 Week 4
Dear Parents and Carers,
One of the things I most enjoy about my job is the opportunity to see our students learning. I aim to visit every class every day and have noticed how engaged and settled our learners are. This is testament to the hard work our teachers put into planning engaging and relevant learning experiences and the skill and expertise of our staff. Our students, your children, also play a huge part in this process. They come to school ready to learn, we see them show courage and growth as they face challenging learning and social situations, we see them set themselves aspirational learning goals and then celebrate success when they achieve them. I very much believe that our student's success is much due to the support of our entire school community, so thank you!
Commonwealth Games – Georgia Baker
Our students have very much embraced the Commonwealth Games especially given the special connection we have to ex-student and triple gold medallist, Georgia Baker. I have talked to many students about Georgia and what she means to them, they speak openly about her commitment to hard work, overcoming challenges, never giving up and her desire to be successful. There was a genuine excitement around our school as her individual medal tally kept rising. We are super proud of Georgia and feel that she is a fabulous role model for our students. A special thanks to Sienna, Morgan, Logan, Charlotte and Maggie who showed a great deal of courage to talk to the media about Georgia when they visited our school recently. Make sure you have a look at our Facebook page to see our media stars.
Challenge Day
On Thursday 4 August our Grade 5-6 students spent the day at Cressy District High School as part of their Challenge Day. This day is always a favourite for our students as they work in small groups with students from other Northern Midlands schools to complete challenges alongside seeing what Cressy District High can offer. There was lots of engaging activities and our students all reported having a great day. It was also wonderful to hear feedback from the Principal of Cressy, Mr Craig Brown about how fantastic our Grade 5-6 were on the day. On Thursday August 25 all Grade 6 students will visit KMHS for their Challenge Day.

KMHS Dance Workshop
Last week, some of our Grade 3-4 students were fortunate to participate in a dance workshop led by Kings Meadows High School dance students. The KMHS students had spent time planning their workshop and were excited to be able to visit Perth and work with our students. We always welcome opportunities to welcome back our ex-students and those from our feeder high schools.

Country Gold
Country Gold trials were held for soccer, netball, hockey and girls and boy’s football. These trials are to select a team to represent the Northern Midlands at the Country Gold carnival at the end of the term. We sent a large group to the selection trials and it was great to see some students stepping out of their comfort zones to try new sports. Our selected students will train on a weekly basis after school in preparation for the Carnival. Well done to those selected students.

School Crossing
The end of the school day is busy in any school with cars, buses and students all congregating in the same area. I have had some concerns regarding the safety of our students crossing the road without a designated crossing. After consultation with the Northern Midlands Council, they have committed to creating a marked crossing outside the entrance to the school. We are hoping for this to be completed in the near future. This will mean that we will lose a small area of car parking space, however I believe it will greatly increase safety for numerous students who are required to cross Fairtlough Street to meet parents or walk home.
Schools Basketball Tournament
Basketball has become a very popular sport at Perth Primary School. In 2021 we had 4 teams and about 28 students participating in our lunchtime competition and this term we have just started our new roster with over 70 students from Grade 3-6 participating across two divisions, Premier League and Development League. We have also sent home expression of interest forms for the weekend Schools Basketball Tournament in Term 4. There is a variety of divisions in the tournament, so it is suitable for all abilities from beginner to advanced. If your child is keen to participate, please ensure you return the form so we can get teams organised. If you have any questions, please come and see me.
Dance Fever
Our Dance Fever group have started rehearsal for their November performance with enthusiasm. They have been very quick learners, each week learning a new section of the dance. A huge thank you to Miss Dargaville who has taken on the role of tutor after Ms Wye secured a full time teaching role. We can’t wait to see them perform on the big stage in November.

Father’s Day
Our School Association are once again organising the very popular Father’s Day stall. Our students just love the opportunity to purchase something for the special people in their lives and we thank all our School Association volunteers for giving up their time to prepare the gifts and support on the stall day. Donation tubs will be in your child’s classroom, we would really appreciate it if families could make a donation to ensure the success of our stall.
Swimming and Water Safety Program (Grade 3-5 students)
Starting in week 5, our Grade 3-5 students will be participating in the SWSP at the Launceston Aquatic Centre. This is a very rewarding yet tiring two weeks for our students. From a school perspective it requires a great deal of organisation and we appreciate the flexibility of all our staff in making sure we can provide the support required for this program. Please ensure that your children are well prepared with bathers, towel and a spare bag to put wet clothes in. If you have any specific questions about SWSP, please contact Mrs Fleming via the office.
Wellbeing Survey
Students in our school are taking part in the annual Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The Survey will take place in Term 3, 2022. The wellbeing of all students at Perth Primary School is important to us. When young people feel safe, connected, and secure, they are more likely to engage in their learning.
This survey forms part of the Department’s Wellbeing for Learning - Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy. It helps us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing.
What is the survey about?
The survey asks students about their:
- social and emotional wellbeing
- school relationships and engagement and learning in school
- physical health and wellbeing
- after school activities
Parents of students in Grades 4-6 will have received a letter with more detailed information about the survey. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Doran or myself.
