Newsletter – Term 3 Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a great start to the term we have had, our students and teachers have come back recharged and ready for another busy term!

Some new faces around our School

We are excited to welcome Mrs Tenille Rosevear to our school as our new SBM (School Business Manager), Tenille joins us from Bracknell Primary School. Tenille worked with Mrs Todman over the holidays to ensure a smooth transition. We also welcome Lauren Waddington and Catherine Claxton as Teacher Assistants for the remainder of the year. Both will be working across a variety of classes at the school.

Sickness and Covid Updates

COVID and flu related illnesses are still very prevalent amongst our staff and students. We appreciate your continued support in keeping students home who display cold and flu symptoms. Whilst masks are not mandated, we do encourage staff and students to wear them where appropriate. If you require RAT tests or masks, please let the office know. We will continue to maintain Covid safe practices at school including regular handwashing, sanitising and physical distancing where appropriate. Please ensure if your child is absent from school that you contact the office, so that we can update attendance.

Teacher Professional Learning

On the first day of Term, while our students were enjoying their final day of holidays, teachers were hard at work! Our focus for the day was on reviewing our School Improvement Plan to see how we are progressing against our 2022 targets, alongside a focus on consistency in our approaches to the teaching of reading. It was a very productive day with teachers working collaboratively to support student learning.

Outdoor Learning

Over the holidays, Mr Muir was very busy planning and constructing a new outdoor learning space beside 5-6 W. It has been a very popular area already, Mr Muir has plans to add some removable white boards to support outdoor learning and we look forward to spending more time there as the weather starts to warm up! We were also successful in gaining a significant grant to support the building of a shade structure over our outdoor assembly space. We are currently investigating some options for this area but look forward to having this as a more usable space in 2023.

Swimming and Water Safety Program Gr 3-5 (SWSP)

In Week 5 & 6 this term our Grade 3-5 (and at risk Gr 6) students will be participating in the SWSP at the Launceston Aquatic Centre. This is a very rewarding yet tiring two weeks for our students. From a school perspective it requires a great deal of organisation and we appreciate the flexibility of all our staff in making sure we can provide the support required for this program. If involved, your child will have brought home a permission letter and accompanying information. Please ensure this is returned to the office. If you have any specific questions about SWSP, please contact Mrs Fleming via the office.

Country Gold

This Friday we had a number of Grade 5-6 students attending the Northern Midlands Country Gold selection trials for hockey, netball, soccer, boys AFL and girls AFL. Final teams will be selected over the coming weeks in preparation for the carnival in Week 9 on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd September. We congratulate all those students who were invited to the trials.

Assembly

We are pleased to continue assemblies this term. Our students love the opportunity to share their work with our school and families. A reminder that parents are welcome to attend but please ensure that you sanitise your hands on entry and follow physical distancing requirements.

Launching into Learning

Kindergarten

This term students in the Esk Band Program are part of a practice challenge where they are aiming to become the first student in their school to complete 35 days of instrumental practice. “Practice” is completing at least 10mins of playing, focused on improving/mastering a piece from their Tradition of Excellence tutor book or a section of music from a band piece. Over the 35 days there should be a visible progression through the tutor book. Parents or carers must initial that the practice has been completed.

The first continuing and first beginning student at each school will be awarded a $35 voucher for Barratts Music!
