Newsletter – Term 2 Week 6
Dear Parents and Carers,
Aspiration as a value can take many forms, in and out of the classroom, for academic, social or emotional growth. On Thursday 26th May, aspiration was shown by the many students who participated in our school cross country carnival. From those who were attempting to make the Northern Midlands team, to our younger students who were taking on the course for the first time we saw our students stepping out of their comfort zones to push themselves to achieve their own personal goals. A particularly rewarding moment for me personally was comforting an older student at the end of the race, whose tears were purely that she had achieved her goal of not coming in last! This student didn’t just achieve her goal, she aced it, coming in the top 10 for her grade. The atmosphere at the carnival was wonderful, with students supporting each other and our Grade 6 leaders stepping up to help out where required. It really was a great day, thanks to Mrs Fleming for her organisation.
Northern Midlands Cross Country
Last Friday, our selected students headed off to represent Perth at the NM carnival held at Cressy. They demonstrated determination and aspiration as they all gave their best to represent our school. We are very proud of all our athletes and know that they all tried their best. Well done team! A special thanks to Mrs Fleming and Mrs Whyman for supporting the team.
School Crossing
As you would be aware, we are one of the few schools that doesn’t have a designated school crossing. The end of the day is a busy time with many students being collected. As a result of concerns regarding our student’s safety, we have been in contact with the council about getting a formal crossing in Fairtlough street, although unmanned, it would be a designated safe crossing point for our students. This is being discussed at a council level however in the interim as an additional safety measure, the current bus stop will be moved south along Fairtlough Street and the current bus parking area will become ‘drop off and pick up only’. We are hoping that this will reduce the number of children having to cross the road. Members of the leadership team will support at the end of the day to ensure that the transition to ‘drop off and pick up’ remains smooth. We will advise the date of this changeover once the council has finalised the line marking and signage changes. Thank you in supporting us to ensure the safety of our students.
Parent Teacher Conversations and Mid-year reports
A reminder to families that our Term 2 parent – teacher conversations will be held from 20 June through to 23 June (with the exception of P-1W and P-1B who have alternate dates due to teacher leave) and the mid-year report will be distributed on 24 June.
The new look report will show your child’s learning achievement differently. A new 9-point visual scale replaces A-E ratings for students in Years Prep to 10.
The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments on the report. Instead, we are encouraging all parents to attend our parent teacher conversations. These are a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning.

Dance Fever
Dance Fever is a two hour dance extravaganza that Launceston College runs each year. As part of their performance, they invite a small number of primary schools to be involved in the production. In 2022, Perth has been chosen as one of those schools. Our Grade 5-6 students are invited to be part of this performance. They will work with dance tutor, Zoe Wye to learn the dances. Our school will be performing with the Launceston College students on Friday November 25, at both a matinee and evening performance. Our Grade 5-6 students attended a presentation that gave them an insight on what Dance Fever involves. Rehearsals for those interested students will start at the end of the term. If you have any questions about Dance Fever, please come and talk to me.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
We are half-way through the 2022 Premier’s Reading Challenge! The challenge is for students to make reading a fun part of their day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. We encourage parents to get involved. Helping your child choose books, reading to them and listening to them read are great ways to help your child to engage in reading. Perth Primary School are aiming to have 100% of students record at least 10 books by the end of term.
Assemblies
We are very excited that we are able to hold indoor assemblies with our parents and carers in attendance. Our first assembly will be on Tuesday 14th June at 2:10pm in our school hall. 5-6 Whyman will be our host class and 2 Colson will also be sharing. We will also be presenting our Values certificates at this assembly. Certificate recipients will be recognised in the newsletter. In order for us to be able to hold assemblies, parents must adhere to physical distancing and wear masks. Parents will not be required to book in, however we do ask that you sign in as you enter the hall so we can keep track of our capacity numbers.
Launching into Learning
There has also been changes to the capped numbers within Launching into Learning sessions. Our LiL program is very popular and as such we will continue to provide three sessions on a Friday to cater for all our families. You will no longer be required to book to attend our sessions, but adults will still be required to wear a face mask.
