Newsletter – Term 1 Week 10

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your support over what has been a very challenging term! Despite numerous challenges with staff and student absenteeism it has been wonderful to see the focus on learning in classrooms. Our students are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated staff who provide so many varied opportunities for learning, including a local history walk, our LiL program at the Train Park, and exploring our beautiful school grounds to write some reflective poetry. This term has seen teachers adapt to outside learning which has seen some wonderful inquiring minds at work.

We have received the latest Covid-19 update from the DoE which details very similar arrangements to this term. With cooler weather on the horizon, the DoE have provided additional fans and air purifiers to support ventilation in classrooms as it will no longer be comfortable to have doors and windows open. We will still encourage hand hygiene and the use of hand sanitiser and hand washing at school. Masks are still required in all school buildings by both staff and visitors. An exciting change to the plan for Term 2 is the recommencement of Launching into Learning sessions back on school sites. The Department has asked us to focus on ensuring symptomatic students are not at school, so we thank you for your support in keeping students home who are displaying any covid symptoms.

Launching into Learning

In Term 2, we will be offering on-site LiL sessions in our Kinder area. We have had to make a number of changes in line with the departments covid safe plan, our sessions are limited to 60 minutes with a thorough clean in between sessions. We are only able to have 25 participants per session which includes children. With this in mind, we have altered our planning to allow for three one hour sessions on Fridays in our Kindergarten area. While we highly encourage all adults being double vaccinated, this is not a requirement for attending LiL. We are really excited to be able to once again have our LiL families on site and appreciate your understanding in following our covid safe procedures. More information about the sessions and the booking system can be found on our ‘Launching into Learning’ Facebook site or by contacting the school office.

Anzac Day

On the first Tuesday of Term 2, we will be holding a commemorative service at our school, led by our Student Leaders. As has happened in previous years, ANZAC Day falls during our school holiday break so we are choosing to commemorate as a whole school next term. We have over 30 students including many of our leaders attending the local Perth ANZAC service and march representing Perth Primary. Scarlet Midson and Payton Acheson will be reading a poem at the service and other members of our Student Leadership team will be laying a wreath on behalf of the school. We encourage any interested students to join us on 25 April for the march and service from 8:30am. Forms are available at the office with further information if your child is keen to join us on the day.

Valuing Respect

At Perth we respect ourselves, others, our past, our future and our environment, and we are kind. Respect is a foundational value across Department of Education. It provides us with a common understanding and expectation of how we relate, communicate, and treat one another.

In the last two weeks, we have had a whole school focus on showing respect, in particular towards the adults in our school. Respecting each other enables us to develop trust and allows us to work collaboratively. Respect creates a safe and supportive environment so we can continually grow and develop.

Our classes have all completed learning around what respect looks like at our school. It has been pleasing to see a real change in the way our students are interacting with adults and their peers in our school in a respectful way. We are also encouraging students to ensure they are wearing full school uniform as a form of respect to themselves and our school. With the weather getting colder, a reminder that our office staff can help with purchases from our uniform shop of jumpers and jackets.

Staff Farewell

At the end of the Term, we will be farewelling one of our Teacher Assistants, Rachael Doherty. We thank Miss Doherty for the time, patience and commitment she has put into her time at Perth Primary. Miss Doherty is moving to the East Coast where she will continue with her university studies to become a teacher. We wish Miss Doherty all the best in her future endeavours and will miss her at Perth.

Assemblies

Unfortunately, we are still unable to hold our traditional assemblies where our whole school attends. However, our teachers are keen to recognise the work of our learners and as such once a fortnight in our Monday after lunch catch up, teachers will be presenting certificates based around the DoE values of respect, aspiration, courage and growth. We will celebrate these certificates with names printed in our newsletter.
