Newsletter – Term 1 Week 4
Dear Families, Students and Friends
Thank you for the way you have positively supported our school community since the start of term. We have been fortunate to have less than five cases in our school since the beginning of term and the majority had not attended in the infectious window.
We continue to follow our Covid Safety Plan and Department of Education guidelines for hygiene practices throughout the school and although we may not be able to keep the virus completely out of our school, I am confident that our comprehensive protocols will slow the spread within our community. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our EFAs Kim and Steve and our office staff Tina and Megan for ensuring efficient processes for cleaning and reporting of cases.
We will continue to inform you of cases in your child’s class by note and as a school through Schoolzine. Thank you for your support of our teachers who have been able to continue to deliver robust learning for all students.
Positive Covid-19 Test
To ensure safety within our school we ask families to contact school as soon as possible if your child tests positive or is a close contact. For a positive case we will require the following details:
- Date of positive test
- RAT or PCR
- Any other relevant information
Start of work in Fore Street
It has been greeted with great excitement the arrival of trucks, diggers and excavators to the site of the new Child Care centre. I ask that parents and children entering the Kindergarten and the Main School through the Fore Street entrance to take additional care.
Phase One of Kindergarten Sandpit

Our builders and landscapers have been busy in the last few weeks creating a new space for outside learning in Kinder. The new storage area is almost complete and the rocks and tree stumps surrounding the area are already being utilised by children. We especially love the tap and the way water flows into the sand. We can’t wait to show you the finished effort in several weeks.
22.2.2022 2.22pm Dance Party for 2.22 minutes

On two days last week all students participated in a once in a lifetime 2.22 minute dance party to the tune of ‘It Takes Two’. The joy throughout or school was infectious as this event occurred.
Primary Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 10 March on and around the school oval. We are very excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to be involved in this modified carnival. Due to the current Department of Education guidelines for covid safe procedures, several measures will be taken on the day to ensure that our day is a success, including making this a closed event. This means No spectators will be permitted on the day.
Events from our modified timetable will be timed and measured so that everyone will have the opportunity to gain selection in our NMPSSA Team for the carnival that will be on the 22 March. Due to current circumstances, events will also be performed in PE lessons and these times, measurements may also be used to select our team.
Please speak to Mrs Fleming if you have any questions.
School Leadership
We have completed the selection process for many of our formal student leadership roles. A reminder that we see all students as leaders and although we acknowledge these formal roles we also acknowledge those who lead everyday within our school.
We have been excited this year to combine our School Cabinet and House Captains (Sports Cabinet) as our core Grade 6 Leadership group. This team will be supported by Vice House Captains. Our Grade One to Five Student Parliament selection process has been completed. These groups will be bringing home notices reflecting the expectation of their roles. Please discuss these with your child, sign and return to school.
Our Waste Warriors, Reading Ambassadors and Wellbeing Leaders selection process is still progressing. This year we also welcome a Correspondence Manager (Postman).
School Association
We have several open positions in our School Association. School Association is a great way to make a difference in your child’s education as it is the platform for making decisions at a parent level. We would love to see new parents joining the association, from Kinder all the way to Grade 6. Please nominate yourself to be a part of the team. Forms are at the office or follow the link.
Upcoming School Association AGM 29 March 2022.
A reminder about Food
Please talk to your child about:
- Not sharing food and drink.
- Remember if bringing in a class treat for birthdays they are to be pre-packaged (chocolate frogs, mini muffins etc).
Nut Aware School
Our school is a Nut Aware School. This is because several our students have a severe nut allergy. Even the slightest contact, either directly or indirectly, with any nuts or food contacting nuts may result in the onset of an anaphylactic reaction. This can be a life-threatening situation.
Please check the ingredient list of your snacks.
We ask that you avoid sending products or food containing nuts to school as part of our minimisation strategy. Traces of nuts are acceptable. We would appreciate every family’s support in this matter.
School Hats
Please ensure that your child is bringing a hat to wear for outside play. DoE regulations advises that students are to wear a hat while playing outside during Term 1 and Term 4.
They can be purchased through the Qkr app or from the office for $5.00 each.
School Office Reminders
- Student validations forms are due back ASAP.
- No assemblies indoors for the first five weeks of Term 1.
During this ever-changing school environment, I understand that we all have different requirements and questions. Please speak to your child’s teacher or make a time to meet with a member of Senior Staff. If you require more RAT tests for your child, please ask our friendly office staff.
