Newsletter – Term 4 Week 10
Dear Families, Students and Friends
Merry Christmas to all our PPS families and community members for a wonderful festive season. Best wishes for a Christmas filled with fun, family and laughter and for a New Year’s celebration which is all about happiness and celebration. We look forward to seeing all PPS families back in February after the summer break. Have fun and stay safe everyone.
Reporting to Parents and Attendance
During the past few weeks, I have enjoyed the pleasure of reading the school reports for every child. What strikes me clearly in reading these is the very close connection between high attendance and high gain in learning outcomes. I’ve been very proud to read about the high-level qualities displayed by so many of our students – grit, determination, perseverance, growth mindset and resilience to name but a few. It is these qualities, and not solely academic ability, which determines success and what is achieved; both at school and in later life. Congratulations to our students on excellent achievements in terms of gains in learning outcomes. Achievement at C standard or above means the student has demonstrated satisfactory achievement at the rigorous standard expected for their grade level. This significant achievement standard is the same in all schools across Australia and students reaching this level should be congratulated for very pleasing standards.

Fun and Celebration this Week
This year we have trialled a different way to celebrate the end of the year of learning, fun and getting along together with our Fun Day. This format was planned to avoid Covid restrictions and the additional demands which accompany events outside school context. All reports from students are that the format ticked many of the boxes for fun, celebration and excitement. Many thanks to parents and family members who were able to drop in and enjoy a few minutes with us on Tuesday. In respect to other school communities, this message has been modified. We send our sincere thoughts to the Hillcrest Primary School Community.
CCTV and Summer Fun
Our CCTV cameras now provide a level of security we have not enjoyed before. Our school grounds and facilities are still available for use and enjoyment by members of our school community and the wider Perth community during times which are outside school hours. Only RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE play and use is allowed. Please call the Police if you witness unacceptable behaviours on our grounds during the holiday period.

Covid Update
With Tasmania’s border now open to travellers from other States, the Department is planning for any possible changes which might happen ready for the beginning of the 2022 school year in February.
While vaccinations remain a key measure to keep ourselves and everyone else safe, other Covid measure will still be important as we move forward. As previously advised, these include:
- Washing and sanitising hands regularly
- Physical distancing – stay 1.5 m apart
- Cough and sneeze into your elbow
- Stay at home if you are unwell
- Seek a Covid test for cold and flu symptoms
