Newsletter – Term 4 Week 8
Reporting to Parents
It has been rewarding to learn about progress, effort and achievement in student reports as I’ve read the ratings and comments for every child at our school. Reports go home with students at the end of next week. Communicating with parents has changed over the past several years with a new reporting format to be introduced next year. This follows the reporting to parents’ taskforce which consulted broadly with parents, teachers and school communities. This year’s reports contain A – E ratings and a written comment as well as indicators of focus on learning, effort and perseverance. Evidence clearly shows us that learning behaviours or assets as they are widely known, are critical to student success at school and in later life. PPS has a strong focus on learning assets, with this area being a priority for our work during the next few years.

We are still waiting for staffing details to be finalised, so I am not able to share full details with you at this moment. However, we’ve been working hard to prepare for a settled start to next year. The following class structures have been confirmed:

Several new teachers have been appointed to Perth Primary School. We look forward to welcoming Mel Biffin who joins us as a Quality Teaching Coach. We are also pleased to announce Jeanette Ryan from East Launceston and Isaac Klug from Summerdale Primary School as new teachers to our team.
Staffing Update at PPS
Although our staffing details are yet to be finalised, I can share some information about our team at PPS. Kate Adams has won the position of Quality Teaching Coach at Ravenswood Heights Primary School and will start at the beginning of next year. This means Kate will finish with us at the end of term. Kate has made a huge contribution to student learning across our school and we will certainly miss her professional, caring manner and expertise. Congratulations on your new role Kate!
Some of our teacher assistants will also be leaving after working with us this year. Elsie Quinn and Imogen Wall have been TAs in the Prep/1 team this year and we will also miss their quiet diligence and contribution to student learning in the early years. We wish them well for their future plans with further study and relocation to other parts of the state.
Grade 6 Presentation Assembly
Ushers will welcome all parents as they arrive for our Presentation Assembly on Tuesday 7 December. Please have your tickets on your phone ready to show at the gate.
Entry will be via the Grade 5/6 gate in Fairtlough Street only. Parents will need to show tickets, check-in using the Check-In Tas app and sanitise on the way into our school grounds.
We look forward to seeing you at our assembly next week.
Cyber Safety Session Postponed
This week’s cyber safety session led by Australian expert, Susan McLean was postponed due to border restrictions, with a new date proposed for early in the new year. Understanding cyber safety and safe use of Social Media platforms is important information for every family. This helps us to work together to help students learn about ethical and safe behaviours online. Stay tuned for further details about this important information session for parents.
School Improvement Planning
During the last few weeks, we have been carefully assessing our achievements towards our priorities in school improvement. Writing, Learning Assets and Student Wellbeing have been the focus of much of our professional learning during the last year. We are collecting data, checking student achievements and considering survey results to report on the progress made. This information will help to inform our priorities for next year and beyond. A copy of our Annual School Review will be on display in the foyer once completed.
Camp Success
Stories about learning, fun and social connections have been shared broadly following our 5/6 camp to Hobart and Port Arthur in week 6. The camp was a huge success, thanks to the detailed planning and organisation required for every step of the three-day adventure. Thank you again to members of staff who gave up their own time to lead this exciting opportunity for students. Congratulations also to students who were great ambassadors for Perth Primary School while touring away from school.
AFLW Country Gold Footy Carnival
Congratulations to Payton and Harlee who were selected to compete in the carnival several weeks ago. Special congratulations to Harlee who was selected as part of a AFLW talent squad which will train together early next year. This will include some exciting clinics coming up in February 2022 that will include working with the top Tasmanian football coaches.
Welcomes and Farewells
Farewell to Kiyani and Thorstein.

School Banking Update from Commonwealth Bank
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit the link below:
https://www.commbank.com.au/banking/school-banking.html
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
School Banking day is Thursday.
Last School Banking day is 9 December 2021.
Rewards for eligible students who have tokens have been ordered and will be available for collection from the school office from the 6 December 2021. If you have not brought in your tokens but are wanting to exchange them, there will also be LIMITED items available at the office.
Happy Birthday
