Newsletter – Term 4 – Week 2
Dear Families, Friends and Students,
It has been a pleasure to talk with students and families this week as I have visited classrooms and spent time in the playground and around the school. The highly supportive nature of our school community, along with a clear sense of welcome for all is clear to anyone who visits. It has been rewarding to visit classrooms and to see students engaged in learning. During the next few weeks teachers will be assessing progress in a range of areas with annual PAT assessments as well other annual standardised assessments. Already this term I’ve heard about the amazing progress of many children. This is cause for real celebration as we continue to work with families to support the success of every student.
CCTV Cameras
Recently CCTV cameras were installed across our school to help ensure the safety and security of everyone on our site, as well as buildings and playground facilities. We welcome the respectful and responsible use of our grounds and facilities after hours, however evidence of unacceptable behaviours will be passed to Police for further investigation.
Primary Schools Basketball Tournament
Last weekend a team of grade 5 / 6 boys represented PPS for the very first time in the basketball tournament held at Elphin Stadium. Many of our team members were first time participants, but what they lacked in experience in basketball competitions, they certainly made up for with enthusiasm, resilience and perseverance. Huge thanks to Abbi Dean for coaching and co-ordinating our team and to other staff and families who supported our students so well. Congratulations to the boys for their great play and sporting attitudes. Grade 3 / 4 girls will compete in the tournament next weekend.
Planning for 2022
Planning is underway for next year so we would like to hear from any family whose enrolment status will change. Please contact the office if a change in circumstances mean that your children will not be attending PPS in 2022. We are also keen to hear from other families new to our school zone so that they can organise a time to visit and talk about the high-quality programs offered. Please encourage new neighbours or friends from the Perth area to contact us so that our numbers can be as accurate as possible.
The class placement process will begin during the next few weeks once details about enrolments and staffing is known. Children will be asked to nominate up to five learning buddies with whom they work and learn well. Teachers have a deep knowledge of all students and we work through this process with care to achieve the best possible result for every child. If you have information of an educational nature about your child which is not known by the teacher, please contact me in writing by Friday 5th November. Please note that requests for individual teachers cannot be considered.
Covid Update
We are been fortunate this week to avoid the snap lockdown which has occurred in the south of the State this week. The threat posed by Covid 19 continues to impact schools as well all parts of our community. Under Covid guidelines, any person with cold and flu symptoms is not allowed on site and must isolate while waiting for Covid test results. Please help to keep everyone safe by remembering the important Covid safe protocols:
- Wash your hands
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Remain 1.5 m apart
- Stay at home if you are unwell
- Use the Tas Safe Check in App – every time
- Vaccinate – to protect yourself and others
- Wear a mask when required to do so.
COVID-19 VACCINATIONS FOR STUDENTS AGED 12 AND OVER
The Tasmanian Government is working hard to provide the COVID-19 vaccination to all Tasmanian’s aged 12 and above.
As you may be aware there have been a number of clinics run in colleges to vaccinate students in years 11 and 12. There will also be a small number of regional high schools that will host a vaccine clinic but this is not something that will be occurring at high schools in larger population centres at this point in time.
However, there are a number of different options available for parents to arrange for students aged 12 and above to be vaccinated, these include:
- At one of the community clinics across the state. Appointments can be made by visiting www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/booking or calling the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
- At participating GPs - contact your local GP directly to make a booking. Longford Clinic currently has some vaccines available.
- At selected pharmacies - find one near you at findapharmacy.com.au
Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your family and the wider community from COVID-19. Don’t wait. Vaccinate.
Young people under the age of 16 are encouraged to attend their vaccination appointment with a parent or guardian.
There are a number of places where you are able to find more information in relation to the COVID-19 vaccine. You may like to look at this information with your child to support them in understanding more about the vaccination:
- Information from the Australian Government about COVID-19 vaccines
- Information from the Tasmanian Government about COVID-19 vaccines
Information from the Western Australia Government through a video presented by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki which answers common questions and dispel myths about COVID-19 vaccines.
Staffing Change
We were very pleased to welcome Mrs Megan Cherry to our PPS team on day 1 of the term. Please call into the office and introduce yourself. Megan has been appointed as administration assistant to PPS for this term.
Camp / Excursions
High-level planning continues for our Grade 5 / 6 camp which is scheduled for later this term. Staffing is being finalised to ensure the camp can proceed and will be a highly valuable learning experience for all students. Further details will be shared with families once plans are finalised. Please contact the office if you would like to set up a payment plan.
Milkshakes
Many thanks to the volunteers who have been offering their time to help make and sell warm milos and milkshakes each week. This is a continuing fundraiser for camp and runs all year when volunteers from the next camp group are available. All funds raised are divided equally between all families attending camp. Please contact the office if you have an hour available once a week to help ensure this fundraiser is able to continue. Milkshakes are available this term. A choice of flavours is available - chocolate, caramel, strawberry and banana. Milkshakes cost $2.00
