Last Day Term 3 |
From the Principal…..
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another fortnight has come and gone with the end of Term 3 fast approaching. We have had the usual unpredictable spring weather, hot and sunny one day, pouring with rain the next. It has been great to see our school oval back in action after a soggy winter. Our new play changes have seen lots of happy and smiling faces out and about in our playground.
Teacher Assistants week
Last week was Australian Teacher Assistant Week and I would like to take the time to thank each Teacher Assistant we have working in our school. We are enormously thankful that we have such an amazing support staff who work in partnership to create learning opportunities for our children. A huge thank you to our Kindergarten Teacher Assistants – Leonie, Anna & Kathleen. Thank you also to the TA’s that work in our Prep – Grade 6 classrooms, Deb, Jan, Christen, Yvette, Georgia, Portia, Imogen, Elsie, Rachael and Zoe. We respect and value your contribution and really could not run our school without your help and support. Thankyou!
Playtime
Our changes to play areas has seen lots of enthusiastic students venturing to different areas of the playground, playing new games and meeting new friends. Our oval has been a very busy place with a multitude of games being played.

Last week as a staff, we also reviewed our ‘flipped play’ strategy. This strategy was instigated for a number of reasons including children not eating at break times, teachers noticing a drop off with attention before lunch and issues that occurred into the playground affecting learning in classrooms. As a result, the decision was made to ‘flip play’, at Perth our children head straight out to play for morning and afternoon play times and then have a 10 minute structured eating time. Children are encouraged to eat their ‘healthy choices’ and food with sustenance (sandwiches etc.) after their first play break. Eating time is calm and generally children sit in their classes in either a circle or a picnic style group. This gives the teachers an opportunity to talk with students while they are eating to sort out any issues that have occurred in the playground. This has resulted in many positives for our students including more focused learning times and less learning time lost in sorting out playground issues.

Book Week
Last week we held our belated Book Week dress up parade. It was wonderful to see the thought children had put into dressing as their favourite book character. A big thanks to Mrs Walker and the Reading Ambassadors for their help in organising Book Week.
Nut Awareness at School
A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a ‘nut aware’ school and need to be aware that there are a number of children your child goes to school with that are highly allergic to nuts. Many of these allergies being life threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our students are allergic to nuts and tree nuts. If at all possible, please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some students have a limited range of foods in their diet, but we ask that you support us to keep all our children safe.
Maths Relay
On Sunday 29th August, a team of four of our talented Grade 5-6 mathematicians participated in the Maths Relay Northern competition. There were 24 teams from 20 different schools in our competition. Students were required to solve complex worded problems within a 45 minute time frame. Our Perth team consisted of Harry, Zaria, Milly and Morgan. They worked extremely well as a team and should be very proud of their efforts.

Father’s Day Stall
A huge thank you to the many parent volunteers who supported our Father’s Day stall. I am sure there will be many dads/ grandparents and family members who are very appreciative of the efforts of our volunteers. We are very lucky to have so many parents who are willing to give up their time to support our school community. A total of $652.20 was raised.

Planning for 2022
Thinking about and planning for the 2022 school year has already begun. Student numbers have a direct impact on the number and configuration of classes, our staffing and resource allocations. It would be greatly appreciated if you could tell us now if your child/ren will not be attending Perth Primary School next year.
Similarly, if you know of families who live in our community and who intent to enrol with us for 2022, it would be great if you could encourage them to contact the school. Thanks in advance for your understanding and assistance with this.
