Last Day Term 3 |
From the Principal…..
Dear Parents & Carers,
Spring is fast approaching as is the end of Term 3. I am sure I am not the only one to notice our beautiful grounds coming to life with the spoils of spring, the daffodils are out and providing lots of enjoyment especially for our Kinder students!
You may also notice Mr Muir hard at work with a paint brush in hand, he has designed a fantastic ‘active pathway’ for our students from the toilets to the basketball court area. Keep an eye on the progress and make sure you say a big thank you to Mr Muir for all he does to make our outside areas such great spaces for our whole school community.
P-1 Olympics
Last Friday we held the very prestigious Prep-1 Perth Olympics. Classes had been working hard training and preparing in the weeks leading up to the event. Thankfully the weather played its part, and we were able to get out and join in the competition. It was wonderful to be able to have our parent community join us and we thank all those who attended. A big thank you to Miss Dargaville, Ms Wrankmore and Ms Wilmshurst for organising the event.

Maths Relay
On Sunday, we have one team participating in the annual Mathematics Association of Tasmania’s Maths Relay competition. The MAT Mathematics Relays are held annually at three locations across the state for students in Years 3 - 12. The relays see teams of four students take on mathematical problems of increasing difficulty as they race to beat other competitors and the clock. We wish Morgan B, Milly S, Harry C and Zaria M all the best in representing Perth.
Community partnership with Eskleigh
Last week, I had the pleasure of joining Mrs Pavia and three of our Grade 5-6 students in their weekly visit to Eskleigh. As part of this partnership, our students are given an insight into life at Eskleigh for clients and staff. We are excited to be able to have some of the Eskleigh clients and carers visiting our school over the next few weeks. Keep an eye out as they cheer on our 5-6 Friday sport teams and also join us for some Book Week celebrations. This is a wonderful local partnership that we hope continues well into the future.
Swimming and Water Safety Program Gr 3-5 (SWSP)
Swimming and Water Safety continues this week at the Launceston Aquatic Centre, our students have been wonderful in the way that they have conducted and organised themselves during the two weeks of swimming. It is a tiring time for both students and staff but the reward for students is well worth it. A special thanks to Mrs Fleming, Miss Doran and Mrs Lovell for their help in ensuring our program has run smoothly.

Absent Students
As a school, we are required to keep track of all students absent from school. If your child has to be away from school, it is important to tell the school and provide the reason for the absence as soon as possible. You can:
- SZapp
- send a note or email to the school
- telephone the school office
- visit the school.
If students are sick, we appreciate your support in keeping them home until they are well. This is especially important during the current covid pandemic. However, at times, we do have students who don’t attend for other reasons. We appreciate that there are times when getting children to school can be difficult and at those times, we are here to help! Please talk with us and we can work together to get your child back at school. If your child has one day off a fortnight, that equals 20 days per year which is 4 weeks per year. This time adds up, from Kindergarten to Year 12, that is nearly 1½ years of school that your child would have missed!
Kindergarten Enrolments 2022
Kindergarten enrolments are now being taken for 2022. Please refer to the link below for information:
Launch into Learning
Esk Band Workshop
On Wednesday 18th August a small number of our students participated in the Esk Band Combined Workshop Day. The students were able to meet with other peers from Esk Band Program schools and share the experience of being part of a large band. An activity enjoyed by all.

Book Week
Perth Primary School will be holding a Children’s Book Parade on Tuesday 31st August at 9.15am on the netball courts. Parents are most welcome to Covid sign in on the day and attend this event.
Children may come dressed as a character from their favourite book. They also need to bring the book along with them, or bring an item related to their book. Parents are encouraged to get creative by using ‘dress ups’ from home supplies without going to unnecessary expense or trouble. The school’s Reading Ambassadors will also be drawing the 12 winners of the book Week Colouring in Competition.
Write for Kings
On Monday 16th August, 18 excited Grade 6 students from Glen Dhu, Youngtown, Evandale, Longford and Perth Primary Schools arrived at Kings Meadows High School ready to take part in a new transition program called ‘Write for Kings’. This program was designed to provide a positive, engaging and collaborative opportunity for students to extend their experience of what learning in English ‘looks like’ at high school.
Supported by our Literacy Leaders from Grades 9 and 10, the selected students worked in groups to choose a creative writing topic from the three provided and then worked together to plan and publish an original and imaginative response to the topic.
Using our blended learning platforms of Canvas and Microsoft Teams, students were able to actively engage in the writing process while watching the work evolve and take shape. Together they shared and suggested creative ideas, gave each other immediate feedback, discussed their progress and took turns at typing the response.
The students’ creativity was sustained by some wonderful food provided at the halfway point by Mr Pedersen and his amazing catering team so a big thank you goes out to them!
Congratulations to all the students involved in the program! It was such a pleasure to watch you all working, talking, leading and collaborating together on your learning. The program continues on Tuesday 31st August with some new topics and we can’t wait to have you back!

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Attention: Parents and Carers of students in Year 4 to 6
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us.
To get an understanding of how students across Tasmania feel about their own wellbeing, students in Years 4–6 at Perth Primary School will be taking part in a wellbeing survey.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
The details for the survey are:
When: Monday 6th September to Friday 10th September
Who: Grade 4 to 6
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4 to 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact your childs’ teacher.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.

Speech and Language Talk Time
In 2021, Speech pathology week is from 22-28 of August. The theme for Speech Pathology Week in 2021 is: Communication is everyone’s right. Speech pathologists work to ensure everyone can communicate with confidence. It is important to understand that:
- Communication is a basic human right
- 1.2 million Australians live with communication disability
- Communication disability is largely invisible. Unseen and out-of-sight;
- Confident communication helps maximise educational, health and social outcomes
- Communication is more than just speech
To find out more you can visit the link below. Please talk to your child’s teacher to discuss a speech pathology referral if you have concerns about their communication.
