Last Day Term 3 |
From the Principal…..
Dear Parents & Carers,
We have had a very exciting fortnight at Perth Primary with our focus being on the Olympics!! From Green and Gold day to the highly anticipated Potato Olympic Games, the engagement for our students has been incredible!
The Olympics are a fabulous event that showcase so many of our DoE values, courage, growth, aspiration and respect. It has been very affirming to be walking around classrooms to see these values in actions, from caring for a friend to persevering when something is challenging. The school community’s support of ex-student Georgia Baker in her pursuit of her Olympic dream has been fantastic, a big thanks to Mrs Adams and Miss Doran for putting together our two videos. Georgia’s story from her early days at Perth to her participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is one of aspiration and courage. Make sure you check out the videos we have created to wish Georgia all our luck and best wishes, we hope she knows she has the whole school community behind her!
Green and Gold Day
The school was awash with green and gold last week as our way of supporting not only Georgia but our entire Olympic Team. Our students (and some teachers) certainly got into the spirit with splashes of green and gold everywhere!
Potato Olympics
If your child is in Grade 3-6 I am sure that you would be very aware of the highly competitive Potato Olympics. The Potato Olympics, developed by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, is a fun and engaging way for students to explore the numeracy in Olympic events through their potato athlete. Each student has their own Potatathlete that they decorate in their selected country’s colours. There are a variety of Olympic events including the popular diving, equestrian, weight-lifting and many others! Potatoes are pitted against each other in the pursuit of a medal placing. Not only is this fun and engaging for students, the amount of learning taking place is significant. The students have been training, event organising, achieving personal bests, as well as measuring, estimating, sorting and comparing whilst discovering 'Where is the maths?' in potatoes. Our outside spaces and classrooms have been filled with the excitement of events, medal presentations and national anthems of various countries around the world!

Country Gold
Last week several of our Grade 5-6 students attended selection trials for the representative Northern Midlands Country Gold teams. This is a great opportunity to represent not only Perth but also Northern Midlands. We are very pleased that the following students have been selected to represent Perth at the Carnival on 16th and 17th September.

Bicentennial Wall
After many months of planning and significant community support we were very excited that we were finally able to see the Bicentennial Wall coming together. After lots of practising, last Thursday we managed to get our entire school community to sign our wall! It was great to see the excitement on children’s faces to realise that their names will be there forever as representatives of Perth Primary School. A huge thank you to the Northern Midlands council and artists Rosalie Wrigley and Aileen Gough. This is one of a number of murals around Perth to acknowledge and celebrate the bicentenary.

School Satisfaction Survey
Each year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys in Tasmanian Government schools, to gain feedback on what you think our school does well and where you think we may improve. Next week, you will be provided with a link to an online survey. You can complete the online survey at any time until Friday 17 September 2021.
We encourage you to complete the survey about Perth Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making. All responses are anonymous and confidential with the survey carried out on a secure website. Feedback is only accessible to the school principal and teachers and relevant Department of Education staff, in online summary report formats with no individuals or families identifiable.
Pink & Purple Day for Ava
A huge thank you to our amazing school community for their support of our Pink and Purple fundraiser day for Ava Carroll. The school was awash with pink and purple and I am very excited and proud to say that our school raised $1300 for the family. They are leaving for Melbourne in the coming days with a significant medical journey ahead. Ava is having a bone marrow transplant, kindly donated by her younger sister Adeline.
We want to wish Ava, Adeline and the whole family our best wishes for their trip to Melbourne and the girl’s ongoing recovery. We are looking forward to seeing Ava back at school in 2022! Thank you to our entire school community for their generosity.
I have really enjoyed my first two weeks as Principal of Perth. When visiting classrooms, it is wonderful to see engaged and excited learners. Our staff are working incredibly hard to not only support learning with our students but also to care for their social and emotional wellbeing. I am excited about what lies ahead for the remainder of the year, Perth is certainly a wonderful school.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Attention: Parents and Carers of students in Year 4 to 6
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us.
To get an understanding of how students across Tasmania feel about their own wellbeing, students in Years 4–6 at Perth Primary School will be taking part in a wellbeing survey.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
The details for the survey are:
When: Monday 6th September to Friday 10th September
Who: Grade 4 to 6
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4 to 6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact your childs’ teacher.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
