Reports and Parent Teacher Conversations
On Friday last week reports on student progress went home to all families, with this week seeing many parents take up the opportunity to meet with teachers. These conversations are particularly important as we work together to support every child with their learning and success. Please see the booking information below if you are yet to organise your appointment time.
Reports outline student progress and identify some focus areas for the future. This year will be the final year of the current report format, following the review into Reporting to Parents. This year your child’s report includes indications of how they have progressed against the A – E ratings of the Australian Curriculum. A ‘C’ standard indicates your child has mastered challenging and complex work at the same standard as all other students in Australia at the same grade level.
We look forward to talking with all parents at meeting times this week. Please call our office for support with how to book your time. Reminders will be sent to parents who are yet to make appointments.
Winter Wombat Day
Recently our student leadership groups held a fundraising day to support the rescue, recovery and raising of orphaned and/or injured wombats. We’ve been fortunate on several occasions for Kate Mooney, the wombat lady of Flinders Island, to visit our school with wombats in her care. Many thanks to everyone for their $2 donations. We raised $423 to help with buying the special formula needed for baby wombats. Many thanks to all families for the charity and empathy shown by your continued support of our fundraising efforts.

Staffing Update
Best wishes to Deb Van Est who retires on Tuesday next week. Deb has been at PPS for almost 10 years, after lengthy service at Summerdale and a number of other northern schools.
We thank Deb for her great work with us. She has shown outstanding flexibility in working in many areas of the school as well as modelling growth mindset in the way she approaches new learning and challenges. We wish Deb all the best for her retirement and know she will now have more time and energy to spend with her family.
Congratulations again to Kate Adams who has been appointed as A/Assistant Principal until the end of the year. As a result of Kate’s new role, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jacinta Doran as A/AST. Jacinta joins us from the beginning of next term. Jacinta comes to us from Longford Primary. We look forward to working with Jacinta and benefitting from her many skills in the school leadership space.
We also have a number of other changes which will all take place from the beginning of Term 3. These are:
Staff Leaving: |
Staff Welcomes / Changes |
Deb Van Est – retiring next Tuesday afternoon. |
Jacinta Doran – A/AST |
Amelia Woods – extended leave |
Cate Walker – Literacy Support |
Laura Wright – to Longford Primary School |
Del Batty – Inquiry |
Renee Harvey – to Longford Primary School |
Tina Todman – will continue as A/SBM until the end of Term 3 |
Mandy Doyle – will continue as A/Admin Clerk until the end of Term 3 |
|
Karen Lovell – increasing to fulltime to work with 5 / 6 L |
We thank all members of our PPS team for their professional and dedicated approach in supporting our school to be the very best possible. We wish our leaving staff well for the future and know that they will continue to make a difference to student learning in their new roles.
Wishing all members of our school community a happy and healthy holiday break at the end of next week. School resumes for students on Tuesday 20th July.
Bags from RAW – Rural Alive and Well
We have a collection of re-usable bags which were donated to us by RAW. They are good for all sorts of uses – in school bags, cars, for shopping. Possibilities are endless. Please collect yours from your child’s teacher.
Milo for 5/6 Camp
Please leave your name at the office if you are able to assist with this important fundraiser. Money raised by selling warm Milo to students this term and next goes towards reducing the cost of our camp for all families.
Your support either as a volunteer and in supporting the Milo fundraiser is much appreciated.
Covid 19 Update

Australian Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum - Have a say in what your child learns.
All students from Prep to Year 10 in Tasmanian schools are taught the Australian Curriculum.
The Curriculum is currently being reviewed and refined to ensure that it continues to be world class and best meet the needs of our students in our changing world.
Families and school community members are invited to contribute to the review. This is an important opportunity and we encourage you to visit the website and have your say in what your child learns.
The website is open from 29 April – 8 July.
