Reporting to Families Review
Last week I talked with members of our student leadership groups about the reporting process to gain their thoughts and ideas about their school reports. This work is in line with the DoE’s review into Reporting to Families and aims to gather feedback from many stakeholders. Parents are warmly invited to submit their views and ideas about the reporting process / format so that the new policy aligns closely with family needs. See the message from Department of Education below if you’d like to be involved.
Review into Reporting to Families Survey
- The Department of Education is undertaking a Review into Reporting to Families. This Review will provide recommendations for our reporting system so that it continues to meet the needs of learners, families and schools in the most meaningful ways.
- Parents and carers can have their say by completing the Families Survey before 13 November.
- We encourage you to get involved and have your say.
- For more information about the review visit: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/community-and-engagement/review-into-reporting-to-families/
Class Placements 2021
During Term 4 each year we work through a range of processes to establish our classes for the following year. One of our intentions is to establish a range of classes which are balanced in terms of academic, social/emotional and physical needs. Teachers know their students very well and understand what it means to support their learning. This means teachers are equipped well to work through the class placement process. Our collective goal is to ensure that every child can achieve their potential best. Students also have input, and are asked to name five learning buddies with whom they work well. Please contact me in writing by Friday 13th November if you have some information which will affect the placement of your child. Please note requests for individual teachers cannot be accepted.
Perth Bicentenary
In February next year the township of Perth will be celebrating its bicentenary. This will be 200 years since Governor Macquarie proclaimed the name of the settlement of Perth. As part of these celebrations, there are plans for a community picnic with traditional games and activities. There will be an opportunity for students to dress in period costume for this event. We understand that some time will be required to make or source items appropriate to dress in 1800s costume so we encourage everyone to start thinking or making from now.
A Look Back into History
In preparation for the bicentenary of Perth celebrations next year, many classes are involved in a history inquiry about colonial life and settlement in Tasmania. A range of engaging activities have been planned including a walking tour, dressing in traditional costume, our mini museum, walking tours of Perth and visits to colonial homesteads.
We know that engaging and inspiring learning opportunities help children to learn and understand more about their world.
Community Meeting
Perth Bicentenary Committee is holding a community meeting on Sunday 22nd November to launch the celebration and gather community input. The meeting will be held at the Community Centre, beginning at 1pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Perth Lions Club will provide tea, coffee and biscuits at the event.
Learning at Home for Students with Disability Survey
The Department is seeking feedback from parents in relation to the impact of learning from home on students with disability during Term 2, 2020.
Information from this survey will help identify how we can better support Learning from Home for students with disability in future.
Parents are invited to complete the Parent Survey by Wednesday 11 November 2020.
This survey contains 16 questions and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
Professional Learning Day
Last Friday our staff worked together to review our progress as a school towards our priorities and targets which guide our improvement. We worked through several sessions which were focused on annual review, our Data Wise inquiry process into writing improvement and reviewing and updating our learning plans. Reviewing progress towards our priorities and targets is very important as we monitor progress and set new targets for school improvement next year and beyond.
Swimming and Water Safety Program
Week 6 will see the beginning of our annual Swimming and Water Safety Program which will involve students in grades 3 – 5, as well as some students in grade 6. This is a very busy time with students leaving school in time to arrive at the pool to prepare for their lessons. Key learning intentions during this time include many physical outcomes related to swimming as well as organisational and social outcomes such as co-operating with others, showing initiative, resilience and following instructions.
PPS Sports Fun Day K – 6
Many activities and traditional events in schools have been cancelled this year to maintain safe and healthy school communities and/or comply with Covid-safe requirements. At PPS our cross country and swimming carnivals and some Northern Midlands carnivals are examples of this. To provide some sporting and activity opportunities for our students and school community, an Activity Day will be held on Thursday 12th November on and around our school oval. Children will be involved in a range of activities and games and parents are welcome to attend. Covid-safe guidelines will be in place so visitor screening, hand hygiene and physical distancing protocols will be followed.
A letter has been sent home with your child with further information.

Students were invited to visit the PPS Museum of Wonder on Thursday 15th October. This was a one day only event which encouraged students to be inquisitive and creative.
