From the Principal…..
As snow-covered grounds and playgrounds greeted everyone last Wednesday, children enjoyed opportunities to play in the snow and experience some of its delights. Warm bodies but very cold fingers and feet were widespread at PPS! What an unusual and challenging year 2020 continues to be!

Appreciation Day Stall
Last week our School Association hosted the Appreciation Day stall across several days so that all children had the opportunity to buy gifts to show their appreciation for the special people in their lives. A large range of gifts were available, including for mums, dads, grandparents and carers. The stall was organised to replace the Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls which have happened in the past with one of these already cancelled due to Covid 19. Showing appreciation and gratitude is one of the character qualities which have been the focus of our work during the past few years.
Thank you to Jacqui Dalton and members of the School Association organising committee for your work to ensure the stall was successful. Many thanks also to every family who donated items and supported the stall to ensure its success.
The Appreciation Day Stall raised $888 which will go towards priority projects at PPS.
Maintaining our healthy school environment
Reminders from Public Health and DoE continue to state the need for precautions to ensure our school community and all Tasmanians remain healthy and Covid 19 is kept at bay. Every Tasmanian is reminded of the following important safety precautions:
- maintaining physical distancing;
- practising good hygiene and washing your hands for at least 20 seconds
- getting tested if you have even the mildest of symptoms;
- staying at home if you’re unwell;
- downloading the COVIDSafe app;
- cleaning high-touch surfaces regularly;
- adhering to COVID-19 Safety Plans while visiting schools, businesses and other establishments.
Communicating with our School Community
Working in partnership with parents remains a high priority at PPS, despite the restrictions required by Covid 19. Parents are encouraged to Stop, Drop and Go so that there are less adults on our school site and we follow the 1.5m physical distancing requirement. This procedure has helped children to develop resilience, initiative and confidence in organising themselves for a successful day. However, parents are certainly able to enter our grounds and to talk with teachers either before or after school. Conversations with your child’s teacher about matters which affect their wellbeing and learning success are certainly welcome and encouraged. Parents can continue to email teachers or talk by phone if you prefer. Anyone staying for more than 10mins onsite must complete a Visitor Health Screening form as required by Public Health.
Enrolments for 2021
We are beginning the organisation for class structures next year and are keen to ensure our data and information is accurate. We would like to hear from new families who intend to enrol their child or children with us in 2021, as well as members of our school community whose enrolment status may change. As there are now many new homes in Perth, please pass this message to other people you may know so that they are encouraged to contact us to organise a visit or conversation about our beautiful school.
Country Gold Selection Success
On Friday 7 August we had over 20 students try out for this year’s Country Gold Carnival. This year’s selection day included girls’ football (a combined East and West team), soccer, hockey, netball and football. Congratulations to all students involved at the trials and best of luck to the following students in earning the privilege of representing the Northern Midlands East later this term:

Dr Adam Fraser – Acclaimed Psychologist
We are very pleased to share some information from one of Australia’s most influential psychologists with our school community. Last term our staff was involved in professional learning with Dr Fraser and he will offer a further session for staff and parents on Tuesday 18th August. Educators will be involved in the session at 4pm, with the parent session online at 7pm. Further details about the log-on details will be shared once they are available. Please put this date in your diary so that we can work together to provide children with the tools and dispositions they need to thrive during uncertainty.

This initiative is designed to provide tools for educators, parents and guardians to help their kids navigate a better and more robust relationship with struggle and discomfort, in order to improve learning, boost their wellbeing and strive.
Children’s Safety on the Roads
This week the Northern Midlands Council will begin some investigations about the viability of placing a crossing in Fairtlough Street for pedestrians to cross safely. This follows some discussions with the council as well as constant messages about road safety. Please support us in ensuring the safety of all children by reminding your child about walking and/or riding safely to and from school.
Assembly – Term 3
Yesterday we were pleased to welcome parents of our hosting class to our first public assembly since restrictions eased. Assemblies at PPS are about sharing messages and celebrating learning. They are not a performance, so there will be processes which we are still learning and need to practise. Parents who attend assembly will need to complete the visitor screening form.
In an attempt to support as many parents to attend assembly as is possible, our assemblies will be weekly until further notice. Parents from the host class are invited to attend. This will be limited to one adult per family. 2- 3 C will host next week’s assembly.
Welcomes and Farewells
We farewell Haylee from Prep B and wish you well at your new school.
