From the Principal

Congratulations once again to all members of our school community who have been so respectful and helpful in keeping our school safe and healthy by following all signage and protocols. We thank you for your continued co-operation as we follow all Public Health and Department of Education guidelines and practices. Thank you to parents and carers who are leaving children outside the gates and waiting to collect them outside the school grounds.

Your modelling and co-operation is also helping children to develop resilience and independence.

Covid Safety Plan

In line with expectations and requirements, we have a clearly documented Covid Safety Plan in place which outlines all protocols and procedures to keep all members of our school community safe and healthy. All businesses and enterprises as well as all schools and public places are required to have a Covid Safety Plan in place by this week.

Staffing Update

Deb Atkins has announced her retirement from teaching after a long and distinguished career. Many, many children and families will have enjoyed time in Mrs Atkins class and we will certainly miss Mrs Atkins’ expertise as part of our teaching team. Mrs Atkins has been on long service leave since the end of last year. Her plans for the future include spending time with her family and friends and enjoying time in her beautiful garden. We thank Deb for her exemplary service to the children and families of Perth Primary School and wish her all the best for her retirement.

We are very pleased to announce that Amelia Woods and Georgina Dargaville will be remaining on Prep A until the end of the year.

Canteen Resumes

Canteen will resume serving a limited menu for the last three weeks of term. This trial will provide some information which will help us make some decisions about how the operation of the canteen proceeds in Term 3. Thanks to Jan and the canteen volunteers for their co-operation and flexibility in working within the new structures and guidelines.

Daily Structure at PPS

During the past four weeks we have been trialling some changes to our daily structures to help ensure that all students can LEARN, play happily and get along well with others. Starting the day with Daily PE has been a part of this change, which has been followed by a two hour literacy block.

An extended play break, followed by a calming time to eat, chat and calm has been widely supported by staff and students alike.

Some structural challenges remain in sorting out the very best organisation to support students’ learning, playing and getting along. We continue to work with staff and will seek further parent input in the coming weeks.

Communication for parents/carers – Minor excursions

At the beginning of the year all parents/carers had the opportunity to give permission for their child to participate in minor excursions without the requirement to sign a permission form for every excursion. Minor excursions include visits on foot or by vehicular transport to places of educational value within the local community that last for less than one day.

With the changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic we are providing the opportunity for parents and carers to change their preference that was provided at the start of the year for minor excursions.

The school will ensure that relevant safety and health precautions will be implemented, including COVID-19 requirement during the course of the excursion. All other excursions including those with inherent risk will require you to sign a separate consent form prior to the excursion, as is currently the case.

If you wish to change your child’s current permissions or would like further information please contact the school by phone or email. If we do not hear from you then the current permission arrangements will remain in place.

School Association Pizza Day

The Fundraising Committee of the PPS School Association will be holding a Pizza Day on Friday 31st July. Further details about this fundraiser will be provided by the fundraising committee. Money and orders which were collected pre-COVID will be honoured and transferred to this new date. Please contact the office if you have queries about this.

School Association Appreciation Day

The School Association fundraising committee will be holding a special Appreciation Day stall for children to buy gifts to show gratitude and appreciation for the special people in their lives. This stall will replace both Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls this year. The stalls will be held in August, with two dates set aside. August 6th will be for Kinder – Grade 1/ 2 students, while Grade 2/ 3 - 6 classes will visit the stall on August 7th.

Further details will be provided by the Fundraising Committee of the School Association.

Reporting to Parents

Parents / carers will receive this communication through a written report which will be available early in Term 3.

Launching into Learning

Launching into Learning (LiL) sessions on school sites will not run for the remainder of Term 2. A decision on when families can return to on-site LiL sessions will be guided by continued advice from Public Health. This will most likely occur in a phased approach from the start of Term 3, and will initially be in one-to-one or small group configurations. More information will be provided as it comes to hand.

We are currently inviting enrolments for Kindergarten 2021. The families of children born in 2016 are warmly welcome to contact our school office for details of our exceptional programs. Please call the general office to organise your school tour now.
