From the Principal…..
Last week I spent some time talking with many families in our school community about the possible changes to the delivery model for schooling during this tricky time. It was wonderful to speak with parents about their successes and challenges as a family and about their children and their learning. Like all members of our Tasmanian community, we continue to follow all requirements and restrictions so that we can work together to eliminate the concerns and changes caused by Covid 19 in society.
Term 2 at Perth Primary School
I can now confirm that all Tasmanian schools will continue with the Learning at Home opportunities for Term 2. These instructions were shared with Tasmanian principals in a briefing from the Department of Education Secretary, Tim Bullard on Friday 3rd April. Information was shared with parents and families at the end of last week. Thank you again for your continued support as we continue to navigate this space together. We are all learners in this new area and we will continue to work with you as we learn together.
For our students, this will mean a blended learning approach through the online format known as Canvas. This continues to be best practice for student learning. Some families will collect paper-based materials from school. Teachers will still be on-site, while children of essential workers will attend school to allow parents to continue with these vital services.
Wellbeing Self and Others
We’ve all heard the phrase – please fit your own mask before helping others . . .
Unless we take steps to ensure our own wellbeing, particularly during times of increased stress, we are not in a good place to be mindful of the wellbeing of children in our care.
Please look at the list of coping strategies published by the Black Dog Institute.

COVID 19 Information – Fact or Fiction?
Currently the print and news media have an overload of information on Covid 19 and it is difficult to know about the accuracy of information presented. Tasmanian Government Health Services offers the following trusted information in relation to COVID-19 situation in Tasmania:
https://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth/communicable_diseases_prevention_unit/infectious_diseases/coronavirus
Also attached for your information is some useful information from the Australian Psychological Society with valuable information and tips to help families through these times.
Online Safety
Online safety is always important but additional reminders are essential when children are spending more time online. Although any websites which are recommended by teachers are carefully screened, home networks do not necessarily have the same security protections as departmental sites. Talking with your child about ethical behaviours online and monitoring their online behaviours are important to ensure your child stays safe and develops responsible online behaviours. Welcomes and Farewells
This week we farewell Steph Forrester as she finishes with us to focus on some important family duties. Thank you for your excellent work on Grade 1 / 2 and best wishes for the arrival of the newest member of your family!

Parent Help and Donations Needed…..
We are wanting to create nature themed outside play areas for all students and are looking for donations of logs like the photos below. Some rocks have been donated at Devon Hills. If there is a parent or family member who has access to machinery that could pick and deliver to the school your help would be much appreciated. If you can help, please contact the school office 6398 2302.
