From the Principal…..

Last week preliminary reports were shared to let parents know about the way students have started the year in terms of work habits and learning behaviours. Our focus for the first few weeks has been clearly on establishing an orderly learning environment so that every student has explicit information about their responsibilities and what to do to make sure they are ‘switched on’ for their best learning each day. Playing happily and getting along with others are also important aspects of time at school.

Student Leadership Presentations

Yesterday at assembly we recognised our student leadership groups for 2019 and presented each group with their badges. Before assembly started the groups attended a signing ceremony with their parents where they signed the Leadership Agreement for their positions. Thank you to parents who were able to attend and support your child at this important occasion. We look forward to our Student Leaders being role models in 2019 and beyond and setting a high bar to which other students will aspire. We know they will make a full and important contribution to the life of Perth Primary School.

Congratulations to the following:

Student Cabinet: Lucy, Tommy, Ryder, Jorji, Caitlin, Casey, Zander, Hayden, Amali and Tarnia
Student Parliament: Evie, Phoenix, Dulcie, Sunni, Trisha, Lachlan, Olivia, Amelia, Spencer, Chelsea, Nixon, Zoe and Max
Student Leaders: Zatoria, Gemma, Montana, Baxter, Ava, Jenna, Caitlin, Raiph, Ryan and Dylan
House Captains: Casey, Ryder, Tommy, Caitlin, Lucy and Joe

K-2 Fun Activity Day

A large crowd gathered on our oval last Thursday to watch Kinder – grade 2 children enjoy a range of fun activities as part of their Fun Activity Day. The day was all about fun, participation and encouraging others. And there was plenty of this on display. The event was organised by Mrs Fleming, with the assistance of student leaders and grade 6 students. Thank you for a job very well done! Many thanks also to all parents who attended and particularly to members of our School Association who provided drinks and slices. It was fabulous to see many parents stay for a picnic lunch with their child/children.

Eskleigh Program

We are pleased to announce the 2019 Eskleigh Program will begin this week. This program provides important opportunities for senior students to develop the character qualities that are important for success at school and in later life. We talk so often about several of the qualities as there are constant reminders of them everyday at school and in many other quarters. The character qualities we’ve chosen for focus are:

Optimism
Positivity
Self-control
Perseverance
Gratitude
Curiosity
Social Intelligence

Visiting Eskleigh will provide opportunities for reflection and experience in many of these. Talking with your child will help to develop their awareness and encourage these qualities to emerge.

School Association Members

Following our AGM it is our pleasure to introduce and welcome incoming School Association parent committee members Erin Longmore, Jacqui Dalton and Mel Lucas. Our staff representative is Jenny Clements. Please speak with them if you have ideas, concerns or delights to share. This week we also thank outgoing members Felicity Cooper and Kate Spencer. Thank you so much for your contribution and dedication to our school community. We greatly appreciate your time, efforts and commitment.

Our 2019 School Association Office Bearers are:

Chairperson: Mel Lucas
Vice Chairperson: Jane Boyer

ANZAC Day March and Choir

It is traditional for our Choir to be invited to participate in the Perth Memorial Service on ANZAC Day. This year Mrs Butler has agreed to lead the choir in singing an appropriate song on the day to commemorate this special event. Please collect a permission form from the office if you would like to represent our school to march in the parade and/or sing with the choir on ANZAC Day. Further details about exact times and assembly points will be announced when they are available closer to the date.
