From the Principal…..
This Friday our school photos will be taken as a memento of the 2019 school year. We look forward to welcoming all students at school in full summer uniform on this day. All classes have made a settled and focused start with work underway with every group developing the orderly environment necessary to assist with learning. Helping students to build independence in organising their own materials and taking responsibility for their own actions is an important developmental step. This starts from the early years so that children develop the skills and attitudes required for learning from an early age. Our priorities are to help all students to become their best at learning, as well as playing well together, making friends and getting along in a co-operative way with others.
Student Leadership
Student leadership is a clear feature of our school and we have been introducing many new avenues for student voice and participation during the past few years. Student leadership not only benefits children by providing opportunities for leadership experience and being involved in events which help them to develop attributes such as initiative, organisational skills, communication and empathy. Student leadership also plays an important role in developing the culture of our school and making it the best it can be for everyone. Responding to feedback, presenting student opinion at meetings, raising student concerns and lobbying for student ideas helps to raise the profile of student voice.
House Captains / Student Cabinet / Student Parliament Elections
We are pleased to announce our House Captains, Student Cabinet and Student Parliament representatives for 2019. This year they will sign an agreement as the final step in the election process to accept the role along with the rights, responsibilities and conditions of the role to which they have been elected. We expect to present badges after the signing ceremony at the next assembly on Tuesday 19th March (to be confirmed). We look forward to the contributions of our 2019 leaders as they begin the year in their new roles.
National Day of Action Against Bullying
PPS will be joining the National Day of Action Against Bullying with some work in classrooms to remind students about the definition of bullying and some strategies to help keep safe online. We will be reminding students that not all poor behaviour is bullying. Bullying is about a power imbalance and is repeated and intentional. Further information can be found at:

Congratulations PPS Canteen – Silver Award
Last year our canteen was assessed by the Tasmanian School Canteen Association and we have now been accredited with a Silver Award for Tasmanian Healthy Canteens. Congratulations Jan Maher! Many thanks also to the dedicated helpers who have assisted Jan so willingly in the canteen to make our canteen service possible. If you have anytime available to assist on Thursdays please contact Jan or leave your name at the office. This service is provided to ensure that students have choice and healthy options at school.

Assembly Dates
3-6 Athletics Carnival
Thursday March 7th
I am very excited to be at Perth Primary and to be holding our annual athletics carnival on Thursday March 7th at the Perth Oval. As it is my first carnival at Perth I am continuing with the same structure as previous years and a timetable of events has been included in the newsletter.
Student information for the day
Students are required to be at school by the 8:55 bell so that attendance can be taken and classes are ready to walk by 9:05. Teachers will then walk with students to the Perth Oval. Students are asked to bring a packed lunch with plenty to drink, something to identify their house group (t-shirt, pinned ribbon…), warm clothes, sunscreen and school hat. Please note that no spikes are to be worn (blanks/waffles are ok). Also it is asked that parents are not permitted onto the oval.
If you are able to help with this even could you please either leave your name at the office or contact Mrs Fleming.
Thank you
Mrs Mel Fleming

Validation Forms
A reminder to parents to sign and return Student Validation Forms to the office. Please note: all grade 3 -6 student validation forms must be returned prior to the Athletics Carnival for students to participate.
ESK Band
Enrolments are open for ESK Band 2019. Enrolment forms are available at the office.
Medication
In line with Department of Education guidelines for the administration of medication, all medications are kept in a secure location.
Department forms, available from the office, must be completed by a medical practitioner and a parent, before any medication can be administered to a student.
Medication is administered by authorised school personnel according to instructions received from the Medical Practitioner.
It is not possible to dispense over-the-counter medications such as Panadol without authorisation.
If your child requires prescribed medication to be administered whilst they are at school, you must arrange for:
- Form A / Form B written request to the school to administer the medication;
- the medical practitioner’s specific prescribed instructions for administration on the pharmacist’s label;
- the safe transfer of medication to the school;
- medication to be delivered to the school in original prescribed container only. An official register for the administration of medication to students will be maintained by the school.
Asthma
If your child has an Asthma Plan, please provide this to the office.
Immunisations
If you have updated your child’s immunisation records on their validation form please bring your child’s health book or a print out of their immunisation history to the office for it to be updated.

School Association Fundraising Committee
Hello everyone,
Welcome to 2019. My name is Jacqui Dalton and over the next 10 months I would like to organise a few little fundraisers for our wonderful school. Many people have asked about having a school fair. We would like to make this possible but at this stage we do not have enough volunteers to make this happen. So if this is something you would like to help with please make contact.
We will be holding our annual Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stall. Last year we found this extremely difficult and we did not have many donations. This year we will give you plenty of notice to put your thinking caps on or your bakers cap to get ready.
Collection boxes will be in every class room:
Mother’s Day 1st April to May to 6th May (school
holidays in this time)
Father’s Day 8th August to 26 August
We would like to have another Pizza Day and Saveloy Day for lunch for the children. For adults I am looking into a trivia night.
All these events will need a helping hand. If you can spare a hour to serve pizza or help on the Mothers’ or Fathers’ day stall we would like to hear from you. Also if you could spare an hour or two to design a flyer or help with planning a trivia night, please contact me on 0400 086 857 or contact the school office.
Here's to planning a great year for our children, parents, grandparents and our Perth community.
Regards,
Jacqui
