From the Principal…..
On the weekend I was listening to some experts speak on TV about health care during the current wintery conditions. The program was around Myth-Busting the commonly held beliefs for common colds and winter ills. Their best advice is around rest and hydration when we are feeling unwell as well as washing hands to stop the spread of disease. These are certainly important messages during the very chilly, wintery blast of weather keeping us all rugged up at the moment. We’ve been reminding children to bring a jumper and a coat if they have one during this term to ensure they are warm to play outside in colder weather, although researchers remind us that you can’t get sick simply from being cold! It is viruses and germs that make us sick. Many thanks to parents for checking that children are warmly dressed for school before they leave home.
Matilda Performance
Next week an exciting opportunity awaits for all students as we travel to the Princess Theatre for the Launceston College stage production of ‘Matilda’. We will leave school at 10am and return around 1.30pm. Students should wear school uniform. Students will eat fruit break before leaving on the bus and have lunch on our return as there is no room for bags at the theatre.
Assembly Guest Speaker – Lauren Colson
‘Matilda’ delighted students, parents and staff alike at yesterday’s assembly. She talked about the COURAGE needed to take on her role in the stage production we will see next week, and how she has worked to overcome all the challenges she has faced in her leading role. Lauren talked about how the courage to face the small things in life work together to help you define a direction for your future.
Planning for 2020
Already it’s time for us to be thinking about next year and planning for our 2020 school arrangements. Please contact our office if you know of a neighbour or someone who has moved into our home area. Please ask them to contact our office to collect an enrolment package. Likewise, if your enrolment circumstances will change next year and your family will no longer be attending our school we would appreciate hearing from you. Accurate student numbers are important for our forward planning so it is essential that our information is as accurate as possible. Thank you for your assistance.
Further Staff Changes
At the end of next week we will farewell Mrs Wyatte for some time as she leaves us to focus on her family commitments. We wish Rachel and her family well for the arrival of newest family member. We look forward to hearing about their baby news soon. Mrs Forrester and Ms Wrankmore will teach Prep / 1 W until the end of the year.
School Satisfaction Surveys
Each year the DoE provides an opportunity for staff and parents to comment on the way schools operate. This year the School Satisfaction Survey will open on 19th August and closes on 13th September. A survey will be sent to every parent to provide an opportunity for everyone to participate as we are keen to improve and respond to parent feedback. Please complete the survey questions either using the online format or the paper-based process which can be returned to school for data entry. Thank you in advance for your feedback to assist us to improve.
Wellbeing Collection Census
Student feedback and student ideas about their experiences at school will be collected across all schools in Tasmania through a new student wellbeing survey called the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Collection Census. This survey will be rolled out to all students, grades 4 to 12, from August 19. Students at PPS will sit the survey in week 6. Although the survey is anonymous, analysing the results and responding is another example of using student ‘voice’ to better improve what and how we do things at Perth Primary.
School Association Funding for Dance Baby Dance
The School Association met early in the term to approve funding for several school projects. Funding towards Arts Programs has been a focus of fundraising projects this year, so a generous donation has been made towards the Dance Baby Dance program which has been scheduled for early Term 4.
The SA has also provided a generous donation towards our priority focus which provides more structure and purpose in our playground. This initiative has been a priority to help improve settled and purposeful play. A new, budget play area will be developed on the vacant grass area in front of the early childhood classrooms, where creative and constructive play will be encouraged. Many thanks and congratulations to all members of our PPS team for their willingness to think laterally and to accept duties beyond their usual load to ensure children can play happily and get along well together. The School Association always welcomes new members. Please contact one of your representatives who are listed below.
Your School Association elected representatives Mel Lucas, Mel Biffin, Jacqui Dalton, Jane Boyer, Kelly Barrett and Erin Longmore. Please contact us with your ideas and feedback to make our school the best possible place for learning, playing and getting along together.

With our buddies, we were challenged to build an enclosure for our animal. Look at the varying designs, shapes and sizes! We were very creative and used co-operation, sharing and problem-solving skills.
