2019 Kinder Enrolments
From the Principal……
I am excited to announce an exciting new opportunity for Perth Primary School which will be starting soon. VEC Civil and Shaw Contracting forming the VEC Shaw Joint Venture (VSJV) will be working in our area to construct some important parts of the Midlands Hwy bypass and we will be working in partnership with them to choose, grow and plant suitable plants for the roundabouts at the northern and southern entrances to the Perth township. This enterprise offers many ‘real world’ learning opportunities for students in the STEM area and we are very excited about the possibilities for all students. More details once they become available. A Community meeting will be held in the near future. A community meeting will be held in the near future.
School Satisfaction Surveys
Many thanks to family and community members who took the time to complete and return this year’s satisfaction survey to help us understand what it is that we are doing well and where we can improve. Staff and senior students also complete the surveys. We will publish results of the surveys once we receive notification of our results.
Education Act Policies
In line with the new Education Act and DoE guidelines, we have been revising and reviewing our policies in relation to student behaviour and volunteer and visitor behaviour at PPS. These are based on DoE policies but made specific to our school and community. We will share these with you once they are ready for your comments and consideration.
Wellbeing Priority
Wellbeing has been a priority at PPS for a number of years. Along with literacy and numeracy, we have been keen to collect data to measure student progress in wellbeing and to guide our work in this important area. We have used the Resilient Youth Australia Survey previously for this purpose as it provided some useful data about different groups of students and their strengths and concerns as a group.
This year all Connect 6 schools will be involved in trialling a new survey tool. The Department is trialling some different surveys and comparing their results.
The wellbeing of our students is important to us. To get an understanding of how students across Tasmania feel about their own wellbeing, students in Year/s 5 and 6 at Perth Primary School will be taking part in a wellbeing survey.
The survey is one of four surveys being trialed across 29 schools, as part of the Department of Education’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
The details for the survey in our school are:
Name of survey: |
South Australian Wellbeing and Engagement Survey |
When: |
Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 3 |
Who: |
Grades 5 and 6 students |
What do I need to do: |
You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way. |
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 5 and 6 students. A Frequently Asked Questions sheet and a form to sign if you do not want your child to participate in the survey is available at the office. If you would like further information, please contact Lee Craw.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Respect
Last year the Department consulted broadly with many members of schools, CFCs and other departments to develop a new Strategic Plan. Part of this process was to reaffirm the department’s core commitment and values. At a school level we also consulted with all staff, many students and invited our parent community to participate and share important thoughts about our values and key purposes.
We will unpack the core values identified in our Strategic Plan during the next few months and share some thoughts about what these core values mean.
RESPECT – this underpins our school culture and is the way we all treat each other in a manner which shows we care, we are all equal and we are at school to learn, play and work. We all follow our expectations and treat all people in a safe and fair manner. Our expectations apply equally to all children, adults, parents and visitors. Respect is the cornerstone to our respectful schools, respectful behaviour culture and helps us to show tolerance, fairness and good manners.
