Infant Fun Day

This year Perth Primary will be hosting the annual Infant Fun Day on Friday 26th October. This is a large event involving 277 students from Prep to year 2 including students from Longford, Evandale, Cressy and Campbell Town. Students will be participating in a fun filled day involving a wide variety of sports based and sensory based activities. As hosts, the School Association will be providing a sausage sizzle option for lunch. In order to cater for such large numbers volunteers will be needed. If you are able to support with the sausage sizzle (between 11 -1.00 approx) on Friday 26th October please leave your name at the school office. This is a very special day for our Early Childhood students.

Inside Out For Kids

At Tuesday’s Assembly the Student Cabinet presented Teenette Van Dyke, the Co-ordinator of the City Mission’s Inside Out For Kids program with a generous donation from the proceeds from their recent raffle. We are very fortunate to have this program at Perth and highly value the support provided through the City Mission. During Term 4 some of our younger classes will be involved in an Emotional Literacy Program which ties in closely with our whole school MYTERN approaches. This program will also be led by qualified staff from the City Mission.

Sports Colours Day

Student Cabinet and Parliament members have planned a Sports Colours Day for the last day of term. Students are invited to wear the colours of their favourite sporting team for a gold coin donation.

Inquiry Expo 3-6

A few weeks ago students from 3-4A, 4-5A, 5-6A and 5-6B took part in a full day excursion, visiting the Beaconsfield Gold Mine and Seahorse World. Following an inquiry based approach and many hours of work, students will be sharing their excursion learning through an Expo on Thursday 26th September from 1.30 – 2.30 pm in the School Hall. Parents and other family members are warmly invited to attend the Expo to see some of the quality student learning that has resulted. The hall will also be open between 3.00-3.30pm Thursday and 8.30 -9.00am for anyone who is unable to make the Thursday afternoon timeslot.

First Aid Schools Program

This week we welcomed Mr Joe Ratcliffe from St Johns Ambulance service to our school. All students in Foundation – Year 6 participated in the First Aid Schools Program. Student have gained awareness in the importance of first aid and what to do in an event of an emergency.

Country Gold

Congratulations to all our year 5/6 students who participated in last week’s Country Gold Carnival. It was reported that our students represented themselves and PPS proudly; congratulations to all involved. Perth was very well represented with the numbers of students who gained selection this year. Congratulations to Klarissa who represented PPS in the first ever girls football carnival and to the Lucy, Gwyneth, Tylah and Harry who were all named in the ‘All Stars’ Team.

NAPLAN results

Many parents of year 3 and 5 students have collected their child’s NAPLAN results. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet please remember to call into the office to collect your child’s copy at your earliest convenience.

Operation Christmas Child

We are pleased to be supporting Operation Christmas Child again this year. This fundraiser has had overwhelming response from our community in the past few years and is an important partnership with our local church. If your family is able to fill a shoebox which will be sent to a child overseas would you please collect the relevant information and a box from the office. Could we ask that filled boxes are returned to the Office by Wednesday 24th October.

Volunteers

A very special thank you to our Perth Primary community volunteers who support children’s learning across the school. Your commitment every week is highly valued by us all, thank you. Parent volunteers are always welcome and appreciated in our school. We encourage any parents that would like to be involved to talk with their child’s classrooms teacher to help.

Parent Reminder

A reminder to parents to ensure toys are kept at home. Toys can be a distraction to student learning and teachers are unable to take responsibility for their safe return home. The school is well resourced for all student activities.

Next term will be a very busy term and there will be lots of information to follow around a number of water based experiences. This will include Swim and Water Safety programs for years 3,4, and 5 students, our school Swimming Carnival for years 3-6 students, the Northern Midlands Swimming carnival, year 1 and 2 Water Orientation and the Triathlon for year 3-6 students.

A State-wide teacher Professional Learning day has been designated for Friday 2nd November. All Tasmanian teachers will be working on this day plan to support improved student outcomes.

I would like to wish all students and their families a very happy holiday break. May the next two weeks be a time to refresh and unwind ready for a busy final term for this year. A reminder that hats need to be worn during Term 4 by all students. Let’s hope we see lots of sunshine over this time and we look forward to welcoming students when Term 4 resumes on Monday 15th October.

A message to families of a few things that will make your child/ren’s canteen experience even better:

  • QKR orders close at 8:50am Thursday mornings

  • Please put your order in the blue basket in your classroom before daily P.E.
  • Please make sure you write what you want on the order form, your name and your class.
