Principal’s Report

As the Easter break is near students at PPS continue to be actively involved in many experiences in addition to their classroom program. Our LiL numbers continue to grow and we welcome new families and students on Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons to these sessions. It was lovely to have a visit from Dr Jane Foster who continues to support our school with MYTERN messages.

Junior Sports Day

Following the Easter break on Thursday 5th April a Junior Sports Day has been organised for all Kinder to Year 2 students on our school oval. Students will be involved in running events and will participate in a variety of active, team based experiences. We welcome parents to support their child’s participation on the day.

Nude Food Day

Nude Food Day will be held this Thursday 29th March. We highly encourage students to bring non processed food items for their lunch. Lunchboxes might include sandwiches, wraps, fruits, vegetables and cheese. The canteen will operate as normal with the only exception that Piranah chips will not be sold.

Lego Competition

The hall was filled with 82 lego designs as part of the Brixhibition lego competition last Friday. It was fantastic to see so many innovative thinkers proudly displaying their creations. Thank you to Ms Hernandez for organising this additional student experience. Students voted for the best original design and this was awarded to James (3-4A). All students will receive certificates for their participation and a number of other places will be announced. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Northern Midlands Athletics Carnival

PPS has a large team of students representing the school tomorrow at St Leonards Athletics Centre starting at 10:15am. Congratulations to all students who have been selected to as part of the team. We know you will do your best, challenge yourself and be wonderful school representatives. All students will be proudly wearing our new representative tops.

Story Time in the Library

Many students are thoroughly enjoying Story Time in the Library during lunchtimes on a Wednesday. Each week the numbers grow and grow! How lovely having someone like Mrs JL read to you!

Milkshakes / Milos

Many students order and enjoy milkshakes at PPS on a Tuesday. This is organised by the Student Cabinet members with all funds raised supporting out current year 4 and 5 students in reducing camp prices. We are in need of parent support to enable this to continue during Terms 2 and 3 as we change to Milos. This small commitment of around 1 ½ hours on a Tuesday between 10:00am -11:30am makes a big difference to parent camp costs. At this stage Milos will continue once per month until we have additional parent support. Thank you to Felicity who has lead this fundraiser throughout Term 1.

School Association News

Following the Annual General Meeting, which was held on Wednesday 14th March the following people were elected into Parent representatives, Staff representative and Executive Officer positions:

Deputy Chairperson (Chris Eldershaw), Secretary (Felicity Cooper), Treasurer (Kate Spencer). Parent representatives elected are Mel Biffin, Tiarnee Miller and Jayne Boyer and the Staff representative is Karen Dick. The position as Chairperson remains vacant and will be filled at the next School Association meeting.

Due to a resignation a vacancy exists for 12 months for a parent representative to be elected. If you are interested in being a part of the SA please click on the link below to access a nomination form. Nominations close Friday 6th April. Thank you is extended to outgoing members, Mel Lucas, Kristy Springer, Deb Hughes-Roberts and Bonnie Lea for all their hard work and commitment to PPS over many years.

Student Cabinet / Student Parliament

Student Cabinet and Student Parliament will again be supporting City Mission’s ‘Mission Possible’ to help people in the community with food and household essentials during the winter months. How can you help? Please donate any non-perishable items to your child’s classroom from now until May 6.

ANZAC Day Walk

Anzac Day falls within the second week of the School holidays. Perth Primary will again be supporting this special occasion. Students are invited to join in the walk and/or sing in the choir. If you would like to be involved please leave your name and contact number at the office. The Main parade will begin at 8:30am with the service at the War Memorial beginning at 9:00am. We look forward to many students joining with Miss Dick, Mrs Adams and myself to represent PPS.

Mother’s Day Stall

The Mother’s Day stall will be held on Tuesday 8th May. On Friday any students who may have missed this opportunity will be able to also purchase a small gift. Donation baskets will be put into classrooms after Easter. Wrapping day for the stall will be on Monday 7th May. All volunteers welcomed to support wrapping of items for the stall. If you are able to donate items please bring them to your child’s classroom.

At last week’s Assembly we presented badges to House Captains, Student Parliament and Student Cabinet members. Congratulations to all students involved.

This week we warmly welcome Takia and her family who have moved from Queensland to the Perth Primary Community.

We wish all families a wonderful Easter break and hope you enjoy some extended time to be together. We look forward to welcoming students back on Wednesday 4th April.

Nude Food Day

Nude Food Day is going to be held on Thursday 29th March. As a whole school commitment to health and wellbeing, we are encouraging all our students to bring lunch that is healthy everyday food. Please do not pack processed foods on Thursday, instead use fresh produce. Children may bring a sandwich that is covered in Glad wrap, as we need to ensure their food is able to stay clean. The focus is not so much about litter reduction, but rather a focus on healthy eating.

The canteen will be selling a range of healthy meals as usual. The only change to the menu will be - no Piranah chips.
