Principal’s Report
Welcome to 2018!

Welcome back to school for 2018
It is a pleasure to welcome back students and families to Perth Primary School this year. Our current enrolment has increased to 265 students, with 176 families and 20 LiL families comprising our Perth community. We have 17 new students and I would like to express a very warm welcome to them all. I am confident that you will thoroughly enjoy being members of the PPS community. Congratulations to our students for such a settled start; following the Strive for Five expectations - being Safe, being Respectful, being a Learner, being Responsible and being Resilient. The excitement, energy and engagement of students across the school is noticeable as students embrace new opportunities and challenges. The school looks amazing, with classrooms creatively arranged to maximise learning and the grounds and outside learning spaces, so inviting for students. Our newest members in Kindergarten have begun their staggered start and their smiling, curious and excited faces are so refreshing to us all.
Staffing Changes
As you would be aware Mrs Craw is currently taking leave. During this time I will be in the Acting Principal role and Mrs Adams will be replacing Mr Johnson’s leadership roles. Mrs Colson and Mrs Chandler will also take on leadership responsibilities in addition to their regular classroom commitments. We all look forward to Mrs Craw returning to PPS soon and wish her well with her recovery.
This term we welcome Mr Damian Eeles who will be teaching STEM (Monday and Tuesday) and PE (Thursday and Friday). We are also pleased to welcome our new Speech Pathologist Miss Kristina Tachtsis, Miss Karen Lovell and Mrs Shelley Twynam- Perkins working in Literacy support, Mrs Rachel Wyatte returning from leave and Miss Zoe Bolch who begins her first full time teaching position.
Welcome back BBQ
The Welcome Back BBQ, hosted by the School Association will be held on Thursday 22nd February. This is an ideal informal opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classroom and to chat with other families and enjoy a sausage from the BBQ. Classrooms will be open between 4:00pm – 4:30pm. The barbeque will be ready from 4:30 pm with tokens provided for family members.
Quality Programs
Our commitment to inspiring and supporting all learners to succeed as connected, resilient, creative and curious thinkers is at the forefront of our teaching and learning. This year we are continuing with many exciting opportunities for students in addition to our focus on quality literacy and numeracy programs.
These include:-
- Chinese for all students in years 3 -6 which is now in its third year. In addition to this, The ELLA program, a fun digital play-based program for children to learn another language will be introduced into Kindergarten in the coming weeks.
- Esk Band for students wishing to learn a musical instrument and perform in a band.
- Choir which provides an opportunity for students to enjoy working in a team singing environment to learn new skills, practise and perform to an audience.
- Future Minds, provides students with opportunities in music, science, online extension programs and art.
- STEM (Science /technology/ Engineering and Mathematics. All students from F-6 work in this area on a weekly basis.
- Wellbeing is a very important aspect of school life. This includes MYTERN sessions, Strive For Five, Move Well Eat Well messages, PE and Daily PE and a wide-range of sporting opportunities.
- LiL (Launching into Learning, birth - 4) will begin on Wednesday 7th March. Please come and collect a brochure outlining session dates and times from the School Office. We welcome new families as well as those returning.
New families to PPS
Welcome to our new students Isabella, Nixon, Charlotte, Masen, Sunni, Trae, Archie, Kalani, Tarnia, Gemma, Armi-James, Mika, Lincoln, Joe, Max, Indiah, Valentino, Flynn and their families to PPS.
With the beautiful warm weather continuing it is important reminder for students to stay hydrated by remembering to bring water each day along with wearing their school hat when outside in school breaks during Term 1. We ask for your support as we continue to be allergy aware. We have a number of students with severe sensitivity to certain foods and classroom teachers will provide further information.
We look forward to a wonderful year ahead working with your child in a community partnership.
