Principal’s Report

Students at Perth have been involved in a number of enriching school experiences over the past few weeks. Congratulations to the Triathlon team, the Northern Midlands swimming team and Country Gold cricket students who represented Perth so admirably recently. Their sportsmanship, determination and commitment was outstanding. A special mention to Isaac who was selected in the honorary Northern Midlands Swimming team, Thomas who captained the cricket, Jayden who captained the Primary Australian All Schools Championships and Caitlin who was a member of the Primary Australian All Schools Athletics team competing in Adelaide last week. Students have also been out at excursions, supporting Mark Shelton, MP as he walked to Hobart and our year 1 and 2 students were involved in the Water Orientation program last week. Thank you for the wonderful parent support at many of these events.

Long Service Leave

During first term 2018 Mr Johnson will be on leave from the Department. We wish Mr Johnson a very enjoyable time and the opportunity to appreciate many things away from school life. We look forward to welcoming his return at the beginning of Term 2. Whilst Mr Johnson is on leave we congratulate and welcome Mrs Adams into the AST role.

Staff Farewell

The end of the school year is always met with some sadness as we farewell several very valuable staff and friends from the Perth Community. This year we say goodbye and good luck to Mrs Legro, Miss Rodgers, Miss Green and our school Speech and Language Pathologist Rachael Zeeman. We thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to student learning at Perth Primary School. We will miss you all next year and wish you a settled and enjoyable start in your new schools.

Canteen news

Thank you to Bonnie for her hours of work in ensuring students at Perth had the opportunity to purchase healthy food options throughout this year. Thank you also to Hannah for her wonderful support in the canteen. In 2018 our canteen day will be changing to Thursdays. We warmly invite parent volunteers to support in the canteen.

Student Reports

Student reports will be sent home with students this Friday. Each envelope will also contain information on class placement, book lists and levy information. It is a pleasure to have spent many hours reading student reports over the past weeks and to hear about individual levels of growth throughout the school year. Please enjoy and share this report with your child remembering the importance of the skills of effort, a positive attitude and engagement. Improved skills in these areas cannot always be measured with a rating.

Data Driven Results

Our work across the school is very transparent and data driven. Teachers using data and setting targets ensures learning is tailored, targeted and continually monitored; leading to improved student outcomes. Our end of year assessments in our priority areas show excellent gains and highlight the quality education our students are receiving.

LiL Celebration

Last Wednesday saw the culmination of a highly valuable year long experience for students involved in Launching into Learning at Perth. Students and parents enjoyed their final session together at the Bike Centre to celebrate this program for 2018. Throughout the year we have had over 50 students involved in LiL with three differentiated sessions provided throughout the week. Thank you to Mrs Adams for the wonderful varied and supportive program she has provided for students and parents. We look forward to welcoming many of these students into Kindergarten next year.

Year 1 /2 Water Orientation

Last week all year one and two students were involved in a water orientation program at the Glen Dhu pool. Students were highly engaged in this five day intensive water program, challenging themselves and learning lots of new skills. Thank you to Mr Johnson and teachers who worked with students during this time to enable them to have an additional water based program.

It is also an important time and reminder that in accordance with DoE requirements we must always be respectful to others when taking photos. It is not appropriate to post photographs of children in bathers. As previously mentioned parents must only post photographs of their own child(ren) on any social media sites.

Thursday 14th December

On Thursday parents of Foundation students in 2018 (current Kindergarten students) are invited to attend a short information session at 9:00am in the Library. Teachers of Foundation will be present to provide some information and answer questions during this time.

There will be a short newsletter on the last week of the school year. We look forward to welcoming you at many of the planned opportunities to join with students as the school year concludes.

A very special thank you to Bonnie for all of your hard work creating the menu this year and providing a very efficient and healthy canteen.

Student Cabinet Report

2017 for the student cabinet has been a wonderful joy ride full of hard work that has paid off. The feeling of knowing what’s happening “behind the scenes” has given us a thrill for when our plans were put into action.

From organising various fundraisers only possible through team work and determination, writing and performing our very own assemblies has been a roller coaster full of deadlines which has presented a mixture of emotions. Being in student cabinet has really opened our eyes to see the importance that the student cabinet really has with making the milkshakes/milos and participating in the ANZAC and Remembrance Day services. Being in the student cabinet challenged us to work as a team and work independently without much help from teachers.

Altogether student cabinet for 2017 has been challenging but not without a payoff of experiences. For anyone applying for student cabinet next year, all we can say is to give it your all and work as a team, and if you succeed in doing so, you will have what It takes to be a valuable leader.
