Principal’s Report

Exciting learning opportunities have been the order of the day during the past few weeks and there are many more special experiences planned during the next couple of weeks. I’m aware that some of our senior students are only at school this week for one day! With Country Gold Cricket, Orientation Day, the Schools Triathlon Challenge and the Northern Midlands Swimming Carnival it is statistically possible for a grade 6 student to be out of the school for all five days this week. Many enriching classroom experiences are also planned during these weeks as well. These exciting opportunities add richness to children’s school experiences and help to keep them engaged in their learning. Showing a growth mindset, building relationships and showing the character qualities of good sportsmanship and resilience are the strengths which lead to success and build mental health. Best wishes to our participants in all out-of-school experiences during the next few weeks.

Junior Sports Fun

Yesterday our early childhood classes participated in a morning’s session of fun and activity on our oval. This connects directly with our wellbeing focus of participation in healthy, energetic activity every day and developing positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Congratulations to all children involved and thank you to families who were able to join us to support children’s efforts. Many thanks to Ben Johnson for his energy and commitment to organising the fun for children’s enjoyment and congratulations to FGC for being awarded with Georgia Bear for showing outstanding sporting attitudes, support and respect for others.

Mark Shelton’s Visit

On Friday Mark Shelton MP will visit us as part of his fundraising Walk to Work for St Giles from Longford to his office at Parliament House in Hobart. He has chosen to come to our school because he knows we have a very strong focus on wellbeing and our values fit with those he is trying to promote as Speaker of the House of Assembly for Tasmania. Mr Shelton will leave Longford at 8am on Friday morning and will walk all the way to Hobart! Our students will accompany Mr Shelton out of our school grounds to the corner of Clarence Street, to wave him on his way. We will then walk back into our grounds via Frederick and Fore Streets, while Mr Shelton walks all the way to his office at Parliament House.

ESK Band Extravaganza Concert

On Friday I had the pleasure to join many parents and family members to attend a concert at the Albert Hall where our ESK Band members played along with hundreds of other primary and secondary school students in front of a large audience. This was an amazing effort for our children, many of whom had never picked up an instrument before May this year. Congratulations to ESK Band members for your achievements this year in learning to play and in the way you’ve shown talent, resilience, growth mindset and represented PPS so well.

Top 1% NAPLAN Awards

Congratulations to Charli and Georgie on their outstanding results in this year’s NAPLAN tests which were conducted earlier this year. Charli and Georgie attended a special ceremony last Wednesday with their very proud parents to accept certificates from the Minister for Education, Jeremy Rockliff, MP which acknowledge their academic excellence. We are very proud of you!

Annual Reporting and Improvement Planning

Our Annual Report and Improvement Plans were shared with members of our school community last week and are now on display at school if you would like further details.

Thank You to our Volunteers

Today we celebrated the contribution of volunteers to our school and our students’ successes with a morning tea in honour of the many volunteers who are so generous with their time to assist in many ways at PPS. Whether it’s assisting in the canteen, in classrooms, with school banking, the uniform shop or with the many other tasks with which volunteers are involved, we greatly appreciate your assistance. Thank you so much for your help and your time.

Transition Plans for 2018

Tomorrow all grade 6 students attending government high schools will spend the day at the school they will attend in 2018 to help them prepare for a smooth transition into grade 7. We communicate closely with both Kings Meadows High and Cressy District High Schools to ensure that our students are well-prepared for these orientation days. Transition visits to 2018 classes will be held for all Perth Primary children on Friday 15th December at 11.30am. This is the same day reports will go home.

Organisation for 2018

Our class structure and staffing details for next year are almost finalised although the DoE has not yet confirmed some details for our staffing allocation. Our class structure will be announced in the next newsletter. We are still keen to hear from new families in our school zone as accurate student numbers is helpful in preparing well for an organised start to 2018. Please ask any new families in your neighbourhood to contact us for information about our school. New enrolments in all grades are welcome to assist with our class structures. Please continue to tell other local families about the many wonderful opportunities for success at our school.

Congratulations Mrs Lloyd

Last week Mrs Lloyd celebrated 40 Years of service at a presentation in Hobart with Premier Will Hodgman. Congratulations Janet!

Canteen

As the end of the year approaches our school Canteen will be reducing stock. As a result this Friday will be the last full menu, Friday the 8th will have a limited menu and 15th to be advised. Please follow our facebook page for updates of menu options.

Books for Life

On Tuesday 21st November all Kindergarten and Foundation students were presented with a quality picture book to take home. This initiative was generously supported by the Evandale Rotary Club.

We are very excited to be able to build a connection with the Rotary Club and it was wonderful to see so many parents make the time to attend. Thank you to David Houghton (President) and Lucy Fyfe for attending and for helping with the presentation. This initiative aligns so closely with our focus on developing independent readers at Perth who share a love of reading.

If any parents have a photo of their child reading their new book that they we would like to share please forward them to the school office. We would love to see students being read to and reading these new beautiful books.

Kinder Christmas Party

The annual Kinder Christmas Party will be held on Friday 15th December this year. Students are asked to bring a plate of food to share which will be our lunch, we will not need a packed lunch on this day however, please try to negotiate a mixture of sweet and savoury plates with other parents.

We will be having a visit from the man himself, so we ask that each child be left a wrapped, named book at the front office (using discretion of course!) so that he can deliver a gift to everyone.

Blue group students and all parents are welcome to attend our Christmas Party and celebrations will begin around 1pm.

Country Gold Cricket

Congratulations to Jamie, Alex and Thomas in being selected to represent the NM East Cricket team in this year’s Country Gold Carnival. The three boys are competing against a variety of other country regions from around northern Tasmania on Monday 27 November and Tuesday 28 November. Good luck!

Mauboy Bear Recipient…….Ella

Congratulations to Ella for receiving the Jessica Mauboy Bear at last week’s assembly. At our recent 3-6 Swimming Carnival she demonstrated all the traits we regard highly at Perth Primary. Ella took part in every event possible showing outstanding effort and perseverance, which we constantly refer to as GRIT. Ella may not have won the events she entered but it was clear to see that she was happy supporting her House group in the best way she could and it was all done with a smile at the end of each event. Well done Ella!
