Principal’s Report
Strategic Planning
During the last few weeks we have been talking with students, past students and staff members to think about our hopes and dreams for students into the future. We’ve been asking questions about what are the most important outcomes for students to achieve and ‘how do you want to be’ when you’re an adult? We are keen to hear from some parents who would like to participate in this process so that our new Strategic Plan is a collaborative document. Please leave your name at the office if you’d like to be involved.
Two O’Clock Together
Last week we were delighted to welcome many parents and family members to school to celebrate the literacy and numeracy work happening in classrooms. It was exciting to visit classrooms during the afternoon session and see so many parents working alongside their children. Thank you for making the time to join us and to celebrate the importance of literacy and numeracy as core understandings.

Literacy and Professor Deslea Konza
This week we will welcome Assoc. Professor Deslea Konza to PPS to work with teachers across our school. This is part of our continuing work to further develop our expertise in literacy. Professor Konza is based in Perth, WA and works around Australia leading professional learning for teachers. Professor Konza has particular expertise in The Big Six, which help learners to gain understanding when they read. These six components form the basis of our literacy program across our school. We are very pleased to host Deslea’s visit and look forward to her feedback about what we are already doing well and how we might continue to improve so that every child makes the very best progress possible.
School Satisfaction Surveys
All Tasmanian Government Schools are currently conducting the Annual School Satisfaction Survey. Last week all families received a copy of the survey which was sent home with the oldest child in each family. We invited you to be involved and to share your views about our school. We are interested to hear about what is working well and what can be improved. You can log onto the secure survey site and enter your views with your anonymous code or fill in the paper copy and return the sheet to the box on the office counter. All responses are due by Friday 22nd September. All responses are confidential. Staff and grade 5 / 6 students’ responses are also collected so that we can continue working to make Perth Primary School the very best school possible for every child and family in our school community.
Think U Know and Child Safety
Several weeks ago we hosted a parent information session about cyber safety to help inform parents about the many issues which children can face when they interact with gaming and social media. A similar session was held for grade 5 / 6 students to build their skills in safe and ethical use of ICT and social media sites. This is just one of the ways we work to keep children safe as this is a key priority. We are able to offer another Think U Know parent session. Please indicate in the spot survey if you are interested in attending a session at drop-off or pick-up time.

Class Placement Information
Thank you to parents who have contacted me in writing with information, which is unknown to us, and of an educational nature, which may affect your child’s class placement for 2018. Teachers know students very well and we take every learner’s needs into account when organising classes for next year. Please contact me by the end of the term if you have information you feel we need to know, which may affect class decisions for your child. Requests for particular teachers cannot be accepted.
Farewell
Next week we will farewell Abbie Scott as she finishes her contract with us. Abbie has worked as a teacher and a teacher assistant, starting with us in October, 2016. We thank Abbie for her outstanding contributions to student learning at PPS and wish her well as she moves into the next stage of her professional career. Best wishes and thank you Abbie. We look forward to hearing of your continuing success in education!

Kinder
Thank you Constable Shegog for paying us a visit. We all had so much fun dressing up.

Hagley Farm Visit
On Monday 25th September, Kinder will be heading out on an excursion to the farm at Hagley Farm School and Environment Centre. Children will need to bring a packed lunch and drink, a coat and a plastic bag. As we would like all children to be a part of this special day, green group children will attend on Monday (excursion day), Tuesday and Friday of that week (week beginning 25/9- no attendance on Thursday 28/9). Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for parent help on this day.
